Showering with Cats
Nov. 14th, 2004 12:13 pmI have a psycho cat. He likes water. Cats are not supposed to like water.
As I type this, Anakin is curled up in the "kitty cup" tree-thing next to the computer. Awww. So sweet and normal-looking. Just minutes ago he was frolicking in the shower - while I was showering, mind you.
He's been drawn to the shower since he was a wee little guy. The first time he jumped in there with me, I was amazed but alarmed. Surely it will be traumatic for the kitten if he gets wet! I aimed the shower head straight down to protect him from such a fate. He just sat on the corner shelf and watched me for a couple minutes, then casually jumped out. This became routine, except I didn't bother to aim the shower head straight down as it became apparent that a little H2O wasn't going to scare off this cat. He never got hit full-force with the spray, but he would get enough drops splashing off me onto him to get him pretty damp.
I thought he outgrew this a few months ago, but this week he started doing it again. I think he likes the heat now that the weather is finally chilly. This morning he decided to drink a little shower water before jumping up on the shelf. He pressed his head against the curtain enough to allow him to slurp up the water - which I'm sure must have been very warm, soap and/or dirt-tainted. I suppose that enhances the taste? Then he sat in his corner, patiently watching me, waiting for me to finish so he could walk across the floor of the shower to drink even more water while the shower head dripped leftover water on him.
I don't know why Ani likes water so much - jeez, he has a fresh supply of cold water available (I refrigerate it for them!) which is constantly being refreshed in this little kitty fountain. Incidentally, before I got smart and moved it further away from the cat food, Anakin would eat while his tail rested in the water dish. Oh, and when the plumber came over to fix a pipe in the wall? The other cats all headed for the hills while this big guy with lots of strange, loud tools lumbered about, but not Ani. When the guy turned the shower on, Anakin raced in there, right smack in the guy's way. (He was quite taken aback, knowing how most cats feel about water!)
- Today is going to be a good day. In the next 5 hours I'll be knocking stuff off my "to-do" list (I do actually post one each weekend on my fridge.... with realistic goals that I can cross off once achieved - I find I'm much more productive when committed to something in writing!), then it's time to begin the Dinner-at-Claim-Jumper-Every-Sunday holiday tradition. This is the third year of the tradition, none of us are sick of it yet! I have been drooling for my favorite dish since yesterday so I'm excited (black tie pasta, in case y'all were wondering)
Life is good!

Date: 2008-04-07 01:44 am (UTC)As for Anakin hanging around while the plumber worked, that doesn't surprise me at all. I mean his namesake loved to fix things, so it seems only natural that your Anakin would be fascinated by power tools as well!
OH!! Best part of this post? The fact that your alphabetic trip through your music library just HAPPENED to be on Bon Jovi's "Slipper when wet" when you posted it!!!

Did I even notice the song, I wonder? Weird!
