Big Kid

I am such a big kid. Really. Especially around Christmastime. I've always loved Christmas.

I bought myself an early Christmas present yesterday. I thought I would feel guilty - perhaps even ashamed - about this purchase, but I don't really... okay, maybe a little. I went to Circuit City and bought a Gameboy Advance. They had the red ones on sale (it comes in red, blue, silver, and black - now, why only the red was on sale, I have no idea - red is a great color!). The only games I bought for it are old games I used to play on Nintendo as a kid that I look forward to re-visiting.

If I'm a kid, though, I guess I also need to parent myself, and set limits on how much I allow my inner child to play it. Actually, my parents didn't have any limits for us... I guess as long as our homework was done? I don't even remember. But my brother and I were such WONDERFUL CHILDREN that we didn't need to be pestered about our responsibilities.

I want to get some newer games too, but those are more expensive and they can wait since I don't yet know what I'm missing there.

So, hmmmmmm, let's see.... I won't let myself buy the dining set I want from IKEA until after Christmas, possibly even until my tax refund checks come in, but I can buy THIS no problem. Oh well - my bills are paid, my cats are fed, Christmas presents are all bought (though not entirely paid for), I suppose I'm allowed some whims every so often. To justify it even more I am buying extra stuff for the kids we're sponsoring for Christmas at work. I suppose the big kid in me also loves buying children's stuff NOT for me. If I ever have kids they are going to have way too many toys, because I will want to play with them myself!

Interesting comment considering some recent entries in you LJ.

Yeah - whoa, I used to talk about kids, how trippy!

I hadn't ruled them out back then, just didn't see it happening any time soon. How right I was!

And now I have FOUR Coldplay albums, and an ancient iPod mini that I didn't even have when I wrote this. lol

Just collecting all those electronics huh?? I wonder, as I keep reading, did you ever finish listening to the CDs in alpha order?? Hmmmmm....

You'll have to keep reading and see! ;)

I can't get rid of this iPod now until I figure out a way to get the songs off of it and back onto my computer. If I can't, then I'm keeping it forever! (what will probably happen is I'll end up with 2 iPods, and just won't listen to the old one as much)

OH, I'll keep reading. You know I'm reading your LJ today in honor of our anniversary, don't you my darling???

I don't even OWN an ipod. I don't understand their appeal, for all my love of electronic gadgets!

My brother doesn't have one either. He's a CD person. The joy of the iPod to me, besides being able to store so many songs on it (yet not enough!!!), is creating playlists. He would rather listen to a whole album, perhaps skipping the tracks he doesn't care for. I like to mix it up.

The problem now is that I can't make any new ones unless I ONLY use the songs imported from my CDs, which are for the most part, ancient. *le sigh*

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, SWEETIE PIE!

Why can't you use the music you download??

I lost it all when my computer crashed. I can get some of it back from my brother's burned CDs, but that will be a pain in the ass because it doesn't show the titles on those, I'd have to look them up, and the order may be wrong... and I think I'd rather just start from scratch.

Brian said we should lay low for a while and not download the torrent software because he heard they were looking at that more closely now, it might raise a flag somewhere... but maybe it's been long enough now. Did you hear about the one lady who was fined something like $1000 for every song she downloaded - totaling like $200,000??? Scary! But that's ONE person out of like... bazillions of people that steal music, so what are the odds that we'd get caught.

I'm just leary of downloading enough that I don't download from "free" sites. I have downloaded songs from Wal-Mart online, believe it or not! Each song costs under a dollar and I'm paying someone, so copywrite is being respected. I don't do it often, so it's never that expensive, but I'm actually more like Brian. I prefer to just buy the CD.

BTW, I've made 3 dozen chocolate chip cookies while reading these messages! Well, "made" being defined as scooping out pre-made mix! But still, they look yummy!! Mom mentioned on the phone last night that there was only one dessert for today's picnic, so I thought I'd make some, since I had the pre-made dough anyway.

My brother does buy CDs for bands he's passionate about, but for the most part he'll "steal" the rest. I buy things off iTunes sometimes if I'm too lazy to torrent (it takes a long time and doesn't always work)... incidentally, THOSE songs I was able to transfer back from my iPod to the computer. (iTunes is where you have to create the playlists) I don't know why it won't let me transfer the other ones, it recognizes that that's MY iPod so it's not like I'm yoinking music from my friends and sticking it in there, ya know? (not that I wouldn't do that if I could!)

That totally counts as making cookies :)
I'm reading the paper while responding to these. Wanna hear your horoscope for today? "You let everyone know what you believe and the values you stand for. Politics can be a hot issue for the Ram. Tonight: You are all about fireworks, in all senses!" Five stars, that's the highest you can have! I only have 3 so you're going to have a better day than I am. Hmmmm, that bit about the fireworks... maybe there will be a Hayden lookalike at the party and you guys will hit it off? ;)

Naw, really making cookies means making a mess of the kitchen getting the flour all over the place. They look very very yummy sitting there in neat little rows on the cooling rack. I should take a picture, post it with the baggy ice cream and pizzelles and have everything think I'm a domestic goddess!!!!

Hayden lookalike?? Unless there are new neighbors I am unaware of, that is not going to happen...too bad!!!!

You ARE a domestic goddess! You cook dinner every night!

[livejournal.com profile] strangealchemy used to talk about a Hayden lookalike at her old job. I kept telling her to send him my way, even though she said he was annoying. Ha!

*snort* That doesn't count, you're SUPPOSED to cook dinner every night!!!
