Author's Notes: This is another one written for another comm but it fit with my [livejournal.com profile] fanfic50 claim so I'm posting it here too. Blame [livejournal.com profile] fialleril ^_^. STILL not the fluffy thing that's rattling around in my brain, either.

He struck them down with eerie precision for a man so consumed with anger. His movements were swift and purposeful, his blade a blue blur of sizzling fury. In mere moments he had decimated the entire camp. He walked among the lifeless bodies, kicking the decapitated heads out of his way, feeling in the Force for survivors.

Of course, there were none; the Tusken Raiders were fierce warriors, and even the small children had rushed forward to fight him. The combined strength of thirty-odd clan members paled in comparison to the Force power he alone possessed. Their gaffi sticks were no match for his lightsaber. And even their rage at being attacked in their home was but a fraction of the anger that Anakin felt that night.

The calm of death had settled over the camp. There was no one left to kill, so Anakin made his way back to the tent that housed his mother’s corpse.

Look, Mom, they’re all dead. I killed them for you.

This refrain echoed in his mind as he carefully wrapped her battered body in the tattered cloth he’d scavenged. He felt numb. Drained. Emotionless. Was this what peace felt like? He didn’t find it comforting. He doubted he would ever feel truly comforted again, knowing that he had allowed these creatures to murder his innocent mother.

Yet the euphoric rush of power he’d felt with every lethal blow of his blade had been strangely satisfying. Anakin wanted to feel that again. He wished that somehow a few of them would still be alive, hiding in the shadows, waiting for the right moment… perhaps foolishly expecting to catch him off guard.

The camp remained silent. He secured his mother’s body to his speederbike, fantasizing of flying further out in the wastelands to find more prey. But his stepfather was waiting for him to return, and so was Padmé…

Padmé. What would she think of him now? She despised violence. She would never understand.

He set out for the Lars homestead, resigning himself to no further acts of revenge. A vague sense of guilt interrupted his numbness when he thought of what Obi-Wan would say if he were there; Anakin knew his actions were not the peace-keeping kind of the Jedi. He wouldn’t be proud of his apprentice’s ruthless slaughter of the camp, even though the Tusken Raiders were a race the planet would surely be better off without. No, Obi-Wan would never know about this.

No Jedi should.

The thought should have chilled him as surely as the crisp night air…but still he felt nothing. His only regret was that he hadn’t arrived sooner. He didn’t think about what it all meant – the questionable morality of seeking revenge, the decidedly dark powers he’d tapped in the Force, or the fact that he too had once been opposed to violence. Like Padmé. Like his dead mother.

I killed them for you.

He could imagine his mother smiling at him with approval, and that was justification enough.

Awww yay you like! Thanks! Yeah, you got me thinking with the children+violence stuff we were talking about.

The thing I thought might bother you is "even though the Tusken Raiders were a race the planet would surely be better off without" - the whole responsibility re: racism and stereotypes thing. But, well, that's what I figured Anakin was thinking at the moment. And Palpatine is portrayed as racist sooooo I guess it's a Sith thing!

Glad you liked the ending, I struggled with it a bit and changed a few things so I'm glad it works for you, and leaves you asking that question! What happened, indeed.

Oh good! In that sense, drawing attention to it -- even though Anakin made the choices he did -- is better than closing a blind eye, so it doesn't irk you.

One little tidbit that's amusing to me: apparently the Tuskens don't distinguish between their sexes, only the clan leaders keep track of who is what gender so they can arrange marriages. (so I'd assume the immediate family would know too. heh) But in AotC Anakin says he killed the women and children too... how would he know if any of them were women? They'd all look the same. I guess maybe the size? But maybe some of the men were short? Okay, this is neither here nor there, so I'll shut up.

Thanks again for your feedback ^_^

Ahahaha, good for you shooting down the EU! Though it might just be me misinterpreting what I read. The New Essential Guide To Alien Species says "Sand People make no social distinction between males or females. Only clan leaders keep records on sexes, so that they can arrange marriages..." yadda yadda. To me that makes it sound like you can't tell the difference between them. Maybe they mean something else by "social distinction." Or maybe the EU is all just crack.

This may also be a case of Anakin's Force-perception being strong/keen enough to pick up on gender differences. Just a theory.

Compelling discussing, at any rate.

Good point. So Anakin could know, regardless of whether or not he could tell by their dress. If he took the time to "tell" in the Force, I suppose - heh. At least it wasn't relevant to this fic so I didn't have to go by what I read!

Eh, I dunno. I'm not buying that so much. He couldn't even tell that he had two kids, let alone what kind they were. LOL

Bwahahahaha. Yeah, that's true!

(And I actually think you're coming across admirably well-thought-out, considering you've had so little sleep!)

I agree with M - you're quite coherent when you're exhausted! Now go to bed!

(mmmmm, you posted again! Shall get to that after American Idol tonight ^_^)

Wow. You painted such a convincing portrait of Anakin's justified feelings in killing the Tuskens... in spite of the fact that he's also fully aware that what he did was fundamentally wrong (he's aware on at least some level). And the way he twists it so that he can imagine his mother 'smiling at him with approval'... Chilling.

Great job, and just further proof that you should write more more more! :)

Thank you!!! ♥ So glad you like!
Heh, another creepy thing instead of fluff. I guess the VDay fic just sucked all the fluff out of me.

Please don't give up writing fluff, and please don't give up writing drama. This fic to me sounds very Anakin, asking for approval after he's done the whatever. But this was where he Turned, and he noticed it only a little bit. Re the men/women Tuskens, everyone in camp died by his hand, so his enraged brain could figure that much out and made no other distinctions.

Thank you! ♥

I won't "give up" writing anything, per se. I just write what strikes me, unless I'm doing a fic exchange and HAVE to write a certain something.

Yeah, the Tuskens' gender didn't come into play in the fic, thankfully, but it's interesting to note the different opinions on it. Your explanation makes sense.

That was excellent! Very well written. I generally like fluff (I think? although I'm not quite sure exactly what the means) more than reading about violence, but I found myself interested through out the entire fic. So well done. =)

Thank you so much for reading! You'd probably like some of the fluffier Anakin/Padme stuff I've written, though it's been awhile. I think you may have read the last one, actually. I don't know what the "official" definition of fluff is but I use it to mean lighthearted, probably sappy, feel-good stuff. The idea that's been lurking in my head for a while now is SLASH though, which I'm not sure you'd like (Anakin/Palpatine pairing!).

I tend to go more for dark, creepy vibes rather than graphic violence. So glad you liked it! ♥

The story did chill me though I still feel so sad and sorry for this Anakin. ;_; ( This part really is one of the turning points in the prequel trilogy, I think. )

PS. Now, this is the first time I've ever read your fic that doesn't contain Slash and Palpy ! *lol*

Agreed about the turning point. And I always want to hug Anakin no matter what he does! Heh.

Thank you for reading! (yeah, see, I can write things that aren't slashy!)
