Just forget I said that last month. This month it's true! I WILL start exercising again and I WILL stick to my diet, with very minimal cheating. Go me. I forgot to weigh myself this morning though to get a good starting weight recorded. Dang. I'll have to make a good estimation based on what I was the last time I dared step on the evil scale.

I feel a little dumb focusing on a diet, or on Star Wars, or anything, really, with what's going on in New Orleans and other cities in that region. I don't really know what to say about it that the media hasn't already said. Um... it sucks. Bigtime. I don't know anyone over there personally so I feel very removed from it all. I feel grateful that I have my health and my house and my possessions. I will donate $ to help the victims (but since I'm me, I will donate to an animal shelter helping animals in the region... the people will receive more help than the animals anyway). People who bitch about the gas prices just need to shut up. I don't know if we're getting ripped off or not (someone said 65% of our oil comes from Canada?), but we're lucky we're able to go fill up our cars and go about our merry business.

One thing I read in the paper this morning that particularly struck me... a mother said she was given 2 diapers for her baby, and told "when it gets dirty just scrape it off and use it again." Ewwwwww. Those poor, poor babies. Poor everyone. And lucky me, sitting here in relative luxury.

I didn't know what to say about it either, and being in England I'm even further removed. I think it's true to say of us all that our thoughts are with them all.

I feel bad for them... but am still going to see Ep.III again this weekend :) The show must go on...

Ah, Katrina, the mess New Orleans is still cleaning up from. Just thinking of this make me hate Bush's Administration over and over and over again.

Wasn't too happy with the international response either. Something happens anywhere else in the world and the US is the first one sending in aid. Something happens here and the world goes, "Yawn...."

I didn't donate to an animal shelter, although that is a good idea. I rounded up a paycheck to the nearest hundred and sent it into the red cross, for Katrina aid use only.

Good for you! I had to add $20 to my "roadkill fund" after my little trip this weekend. Ah, so it goes. I need to send in money for that soon, it's almost up to $100. I feel like a failure if I let it get above $100!

If I did a road kill fund I think I'd be sending in $100 a month. All kinds of dead things along the road.

You should do it by size or animal. One dollar for a skunk, five dollars for a cat/dog, and $10 for a deer. Wait, do you even have deer out there?? I mean in Phoenix itself, not up in the mountains.

That's a good idea. So the little lizard squashed into the street in front of my house - so squashed he was entirely black and not even recognizable as a lizard except for the outline of him - he'd only be worth like 50 cents. But that one REALLY bothered me for some reason. Poor little guy. I guess I like lizards.

I've never seen a deer here, even in the mountains! There are apparently elk in the mountains I go to, juding by the "watch for elk" signs. My dad hit a steer once, didn't like going up late at night after that! (the steer was black so he didn't see him. totally fucked up the front of the car)

Oh, yes, steer can be rather nasty to hit, they are large animals. I worked on a "living history" farm for a summer when I lived in Iowa. I remember one steer refusing to get out of the road so I could drive home. It was most annoying. He wasn't scared of the car horn, the lights, nothing. He was in the road and I could just wait on him, thank you very much!!

So how did you get him out of the road, or how long did you sit there waiting? LOL

It's tempting to sit here and answer you but I've suddenly gotten inspired to tackle the Coffee Table of Doom. Must not waste such inspiration! I won't be around much until tomorrow, so just think how far you can get on the TSP by then! Yes your weekend should revolve around the TSP. LOL

Good luck with the Coffee Table of Doom. I have similar projects I'll be working on this weekend. Right now, the sun has hit my deck, and I think I'm going to go outside with my book...cleaning can wait!

I find it amusing that you actually GO OUTSIDE when the sun hits your deck! I never voluntarily go outside during the summer at all, but let alone when the sun is hitting the spot I want to sit in!

Yeah, but my deck is very shaded and doesn't get a lot of sun, so it's a treat when it does. AND we don't live in a blast furnance like you do!

I caught a bit of the news earlier... it was only 92 here today! That's 11 degrees below the average for this date. But - BUT! - the humidity was 46%!!!!! Yowza!!!

LOL..I just checked, our current humidity, at almost midnight, is 91%

O_O 91%????

I should have stayed back in Jersey as a kid. I used to have a humidifier in my room cuz I'd get bloody noses all the time and the doctor said it was from the dryness. Ha! Doesn't happen anymore though. I guess my body adjusted.
