"I'm not the Jedi I should be"
Oct. 21st, 2005 07:08 pmThere's a reason I didn't get a single Slytherin vote when I applied at
hogwartsishome. Slytherin is the AMBITIOUS house. I have absolutely zero ambition. Nada. Zilch.
Today I had my "mid-year review" at work - it's this bullshit we have to do to please the Corporate Giants. The only way a review is not bullshit is when it's tied to a raise, and that doesn't happen in my company, not anymore! It was actually nice to sit and chat with my supervisor a bit... she's usually too busy to even take much notice of me, and she actually told me she takes me for granted and needs to praise me more (awwww). But then she started going on about how the company's growing and I need to think about my future, that I could be in a supervisory position, blah blah.
Ummmmmm - hell no. I don't WANT to be responsible for anyone's work but my own. And I sure as hell don't want to be salaried, that is the kiss of death unless you're the type who can abuse it. I don't WANT anyone helping me with my job, I can handle it, we're not growing THAT fast! She knows how I feel about supervising but she doesn't seem convinced that I won't change my mind. Granted, the only supervisory experience I have equates to babysitting (at my theatre), but still - there's more at stake in a "real job." I've taken on leadership roles at certain times for certain things but that's different, and short-lived.
And now I'm supposed to fill out this 2-page worksheet about my career goals. *sigh* I HAVE NONE! I'M FINE WHERE I'M AT! ::channels Beck and sings:: "I'm a loser babyyyyyyy so why don't ya kill meeeeeeeeeeeeh"
Oh and my boss is worried about me getting bored? That's what the internet is for. I'm never bored. I let my filing stack up for when the network crashes = no internet. So still not bored. If they were smart they'd send me home at the non-crunch times to make up for my overtime, but since they don't care I just keep getting overtime every other week.
Not everyone is cut out to be a supervisor, there has to be plenty of peons to do the grunge work. What's wrong with being a peon?

Date: 2005-10-21 08:01 pm (UTC)Yes they're talking about more money - but I know this company. They'll give me just a WEE bit more money, and it won't amount to the same hourly amount because I'll have to put in extra hours, they'd probably make me stay 'til 5 - 6pm every day... and I'm just not a good manager of people, I want to do everything MYSELF. There is no supervisor opening at the moment, but she made it sound like they're talking about creating a role for me. ??? Stressful!!!! I like being a peon!

Date: 2005-10-22 12:00 am (UTC)Gosh, you actually HAVE someone who WANTS to help you with your career. Come over here girl and we'll swap jobs. I have totally no one who could help me, my career is going no where unless I do something myself (which I will because I AM darned ambitious, that's why I'm a Slytherin) and you don't want more money??? What kind of person are you??? Idealist? *lol* Yeah, let's swap jobs, at mine you have about 2 hours work and the other 6 you can spend surfing the internet. ;)
Obviously we all get what we DON'T want *lol* The universe has such a sick kind of humour...

The test was kinda easy... I am pretty confident about the majority of it... but then again, I could be fooling myself:)

Date: 2008-08-24 09:17 pm (UTC)I was salaried for a while at the theatre, and I didn't like working "extra hours" and not getting paid for it. It sounds like your boss is very good about not working you to death. My company doesn't care! If you're salaried, you'll work 7 days a week if they want you to!
And thanks for thinking I'd be good :) but I'm also not good with handling conflicts.
