"I'm not afraid"/"You will be!"
Nov. 18th, 2005 08:44 pmThis is the first movie I've seen in the theatre in the past 6 months that is NOT Revenge of the Sith. It felt a bit strange at first. But I quickly forgot all about Star Wars for 2 1/2 hours once it started. And it was nice watching previews for NEW movies for a change!
This is not a review, really, it's more just... spewing emotion into cyberspace.
Whoooooooaaaaa. I cried! This is the first Harry Potter movie to make me cry! I love it!!! Crying is good!!!! I wonder if knowing what was going to happen the whole time made me MORE ready to cry. Like, the first time I saw Revenge of the Sith, I barely cried, but the next time I was bawling like through the whole thing.
ANYWAY! This is NOT a Star Wars post *ahem*. Sorry.
The movie was long, but I wish it was longer. It's been a while since I've read books 4 & 5, and I might be getting some things mixed up between the two of them, but I KNOW there were house elves in the 4th book and I thought that's when Hermione started S.P.E.W.? But that wasn't in there. And I thought there was this whole thing about Dumbledore not looking at him and ignoring him all year, and him being suspended before even starting school for using magic outside of school... but maybe that's Book 5, I can't be bothered to go check right now.
I loved the Yule Ball, and all the sweet innocent little boy/girl angst, that was great! Though, if I was watching these movies alone and not reading the books, I might think there was something building between Harry & Hermione instead of Ron and Hermione. I just got over my Harry/Hermione dreams, now they're being stirred up again!
Cedric... oh he was adorable. If I were younger I'd be lusting after him. (errr, well, I kinda lust after Harry, and he's younger than Cedric! Oy) To the stupid reviewers who were bemoaning the fact that a death was shown on-screen... well, fuck you, what were they supposed to do??? Harry had to bring his body back, were they not supposed to show that either? I would have felt cheated, and I may not have cried so much or at all. [Gryffin is here trying to help me type this, how cute! Note to self: post some pics before he grows up]
I feel like the movie downplayed Harry's aloneness somewhat too - or maybe it just didn't seem to last as long as it did in the book due to it taking me forever to read that book? I don't know.
Only one screaming child - and not even during a scary part so I'm thinking it was unrelated screaming. I loved the scary parts. I did just want to give Harry a hug during every task though. *sigh*
I'm going to shut up now and go play with Max ;)

Date: 2005-11-19 04:48 am (UTC)That was in book 5 as you suspected.
But S.P.E.W. really was in the 4th book. However, I'm not really sad that they cut it out. They had to cut out a lot and that really wasn't important to the plot. It actually always annoyed me in the book, so yay for leaving it out :D
Cedric was definitely sexy. I could easily start lusting over him if there hadn't been an even more delicious object in the film. *drools*
I don't see why it is a problem to show in the film what's also in the book - Cedric's death is most important - and giving it a 12 (or even higher) rating. Do children of 6 really have to be dragged to a film only because it's called Harry Potter? Parents, use your brains!

Date: 2005-11-19 12:55 pm (UTC)I thought of you last night - you must be disappointed that Lucius was barely in it, eh? You probably wrote that somewhere already, I have to catch up on my f-list!

and agreed on cedric's death and body. They are making films, based on books. If its important in the book, it has to be in the film!

Date: 2005-11-19 12:52 pm (UTC)I thought I was pronouncing Beauxbatons incorrectly until I chatted last night and everyone else said THEY got it wrong! Dang, you'd think they'd brush up on their French before filming those scenes.

Date: 2005-11-19 12:57 pm (UTC)I think the reviewer was saying they shouldn't have shown Cedric dying on-screen. But if you're going to show the body, what's the difference - the kids are going to see a dead Cedric. It has to be that way, or they have to change the part where Harry comes back with the body, and OHHHH would I be mad if they did that, I loved that scene.
