Just got some sad news. Felt compelled to dedicate a post to my online friend.

Rest in peace, Nina ([livejournal.com profile] tigersalamander)
April 14, 1989 -- December 25, 2005

I didn't know her very well, only online and only in the past couple months (since I joined [livejournal.com profile] hogwartsishome). She befriended me right when I joined and we just kind of "clicked." She encouraged me to start roleplaying - though, by the time I got around to creating a character to interact with hers, she had left the community. What a shame! Anyway, I will miss our chats. She was a lovely, remarkable girl and my heart aches for her family and friends.

I knew she'd been very ill, but she had said she'd try to get on AIM every so often... I kept waiting to see her sign on but it's been I think a few weeks since we were on at the same time. Last night I saw her sign on, I was about to go "munch on her tail" as I usually did to greet her... but she signed off immediately. Obviously now I know that wasn't her, and I'm glad I wasn't able to cause that family member any more pain, even on such a small scale.

Note to self: Go back and make sure you have her voicepost saved on your computer somewhere.

I'm going away now, I can't be sitting here crying at work!

ETA: I'm a big doofus. I actually shed a few tears because "she never got to read Book 7." I'm all emo now, still at work - and I didn't even know her very well. *sigh*

That's incredibly sad. She was so young. I'm sorry. *hug*

Thanks *hugs back* I know, that's the worst thing - her age. So much in life she hadn't yet experienced. And now I see they deleted her journal, I hope that's just temporary, I was hoping to go back through some stuff tonight :(

No idea what's really going on, but a lot of people think she faked her death (as many LJers do), as there were posts from her journal in [livejournal.com profile] abusedgrls on the 29th, saying she's French living in the US and her name is "Nina Cohen". Those posts are now deleted, but someone took screenshots as proof. Supposedly she would've already been dead by then, so this doesn't add up.

Anyway, it's all over here. http://www.livejournal.com/community/fake_lj_deaths/191660.html
You have to be a member to see the junk though.

I know it sounds terrible, but maybe you should make sure this is valid before you mourn. It would be great if she IS still alive, even if that makes her just another person seeking attention on the internet. I've known people who have faked their deaths online and it's always difficult to deal with. I don't understand why people screw with others like that.

Sorry to be the bearer of shitty news, but I thought you should know. -.-

Don't be sorry - thank you. I really hope she's not dead. I'll probably never know for sure. I joined that community... this kind of stuff fascinates me. I'm going to try to talk to someone else who knew her and who appears to be a wee bit suspicious.

The thing is... people who do this for attention - okay, they get the attention, but then they can never talk to their "friends" again. What good is that??? I still think it's possible that her AIM was on autosign-on, and maybe a family member was looking at her posts and decided they didn't want to leave them up (doesn't sound like a very flattering community to have stuff aired on?)... or something. I dunno. I hope she's alive. And if she's reading this maybe she could email me or something?

Being caring is not a bad thing, and is one of the reasons I like you so much. Don't stop being you!

You're sweet. And to respond to an earlier comment - you should get the SW Trivial Pursuit game anyway, you can play with yourself! I plan on having a game with myself pitting the tokens against each other. Yes, a very scientific method of determining who rules.

*snickers* I told you to play with yourself. I'm getting to be as bad as you are....

Hahaha, yeah, I did notice that you told me to play with myself, and I was already thinking up a nice reply before you pointed that out! So I shall just do as you say instead ;-)

Ah, the Nina thing that got me interested in [livejournal.com profile] fake_lj_deaths! Yeah, I still don't know about this one. I'll never know for sure.

(whoops, edited to fix comm name. I, unlike you, USE the edit feature. LOL)

I don't understand why anyone would fake a death. Just say you've lost interest in being online and that you're leaving LJ. Why the drama???

Ohhhh but some people get off on the drama! They want to see people "mourn" them and such. Ick.
