"You're Fired!"
Jan. 28th, 2005 12:15 pmHmmmm, why does the little smiley icon show up for "surprised"? That word does not automatically mean GOOD. In my case, it's bad.
No, I wasn't fired, I just thought I'd throw in that Apprentice line, even though I don't watch the show. Just wanted to show I'm up on the lingo, baby. Bling bling! Heh.
Yesterday at 3:15 a coworker of mine came in my office and asked me what time I was leaving. This is a person with more authority than me who supervises others in my department, but she's not my direct supervisor. I said my usual time, 4:00. She said, "I need you to leave right at 4:00, but I can't tell you why - you'll find out eventually. And don't talk about it to anyone." Sheesh, talk about scary. I called Aaron (assuming the "anyone" meant people at work only) and he said "Uh-oh, she's planning on opening fire and wants you out of harm's way because you're the only one she likes in the whole company!" Heh. That wasn't true, of course, or I probably wouldn't be posting here right now. I came in this morning and saw a certain coworker's desk all cleared off, no personal belongings. Yup - this woman had fired her yesterday, and knew there would be a scene.
We had a meeting about it first thing this morning so we could discuss, though not directly about the reasons or anything specific concerning the firee (is that a word?). It sucks cuz this girl was like the life of the party in this office. Plus one of my best Avon customers - she may still buy from me but I doubt it will be anything near as much as when she worked here, that's what happens when people leave. I will miss her.
My plot to keep my own job is intact, though - no one knows how to do it. And not only would they need to know how to do it, they'd have to be willing to come in at 4am on the due date. I'm supposed to train my backup when things get a little more solid in the new system.... our parent company has almost worked out all the kinks to the point where I would feel comfortable training someone (last time went deliciously well). I did hear a rumor, though, that my designated backup is "too busy" so my boss is going to have to pick someone else - he's not happy about that. I assured him I'll always be here. Awwww. Warm fuzzies.
