OMG!!!!!!
So I'm working hard yesterday, as it was payroll crunch time. Late in the afternoon I'm hurrying to try to get done on time so I can go home and bust out my orders (for the next 2 months, my "long day" at work falls on the day I receive my Avon shipment, which sucks). My boss walks by and says "Come see me - now." Kinda stern-like. I swallow my annoyance and scoot my little butt in there. "Close the door," she says. I oblige and sit down. She looks me in the eye and says, "You're in trouble." She has papers in her hand. I'm racking my brain, thinking Ohshit ohshit what did I do? Did I not inform her of something she needs to know? Did I make a decision I should have run by her first? Aaaaaand, of course: Are those screen-prints she got somehow of the stuff I write in LJ while at work????. Heh. That was the worst scenario.
I'm trying not to look panicked and she hands me this nice letter... informing me that I'm being given a raise! A decent one, even! Woooooooo! We didn't get raises last year - and even this year they're only given for taking on additional responsibilities, which I will be. Bring it on, I say. Telling me I'm a good employee is one thing, putting the money where their mouths are is quite another.
I scolded her for scaring me and she laughed. I felt pretty guilty sitting there reading about how great my contribution is to the company, blah blah... if they only knew what a slacker I am! I'm going to really try to be better though. REALLY. As in, when I'm done with this entry, I'm turning off the internet until I get home (after Dad leaves, so I won't be on 'til late - I have to catch up on RP too, eek!). Here's the other thing - my boss was telling me about how we're expected to grow this year and that we'll have to discuss getting some help for me soon. As in, hiring another person. Nooooooooooooo!!!! I assured her I can handle it, really. I don't WANT to work with anyone else. I don't want anyone else touching my stuff. I'm very possessive about my work. And I only started slacking in the first place because I didn't have enough to do - it kind of got out of hand after that, as I have plenty to catch up on now, but the important stuff always gets done on time.
I didn't get home last night (from delivering) until 10 and I was going to go right to bed, as I had another get-up-at-4:30 day today except I slept 'til 5:15 but that's beside the point... but I had left the Game Show Network on to try and fool my cats into thinking I was home. Yeah, I'm silly. This show called "Anything to Win" was just starting. The episode was about the Pennsylvania lottery scam of 4/24/80. I never heard anything about this but it sounds like it was a huge deal (yeah I was really little, but wouldn't I have learned about it later, somewhere?) I just had to watch it, I love stuff like this. I wanted to know how they did it, who was behind it, how they got caught, etc. Unfortunately I dozed off several times during it so I still don't know the whole story but what I saw was fascinating. Have I been living under a rock? Wait, don't answer that. Heh.
I'll catch up on everything tonight and tomorrow night, hopefully. I can't wait 'til this weekend, I have absolutely nothing planned - I'm going to get so much done!

Date: 2008-09-25 03:10 am (UTC)Well, the first year I had a review John told me to keep in mind that he NEVER gives anyone a rating of "4", which was the best rating. So, I had mostly 3s and one or two 2s because the review was very shortly after I started and I was still learning aspects of the job.
Then one year he completes his side of the review (which the employee was supposed to read and discuss with the supervisor and sign off on before it was submitted to HR) and hands it to me. He tells me he thinks I should go back in the employee lounge and read it "read it away from where everyone can see you and to not come back until you calm down."
NOW, I'm sweating, of course. So, I go back into the lounge and hesitantly open the damned thing up.
EVERTYTHING was rated a 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He'd broken his "never gives a 4 rating" the year before on one or two things, but this year, every single thing the employee was rated on was a 4!!!!
I went back to his office to yell at him. He burst out laughing. Wanted to kill him!!!
