"I'm a person and my name is Anakin"
Jun. 26th, 2006 07:20 amI have a laptop!
Yay!!!!!
Except... I'm clueless about getting the internet to work on it. It must be harder than my desktop was, cuz the guy at the store asked me if I had someone to set it up for me, and to make sure they know how to do it securely so the whole neighborhood can't hack into my internet. Gah!
So, who do I bribe with promises of hot sex - the computer guy at work or
sweet_panda?
So I'm cat-sitting for K for 2 weeks. She has 2 cats, one who is very cat-like and aloof and couldn't care less if I'm there or not, and one who is sweet and clingy and needy. The sweet one is unfortunately suffering from a malady that requires him to wear one of those awful lampshade collars. This means that the poor thing can't eat or drink until I get there and free him from it. He doesn't like to use the litterbox while wearing it either, but K said he will if he has to so don't worry about that. I feel soooooo bad for him. I have to shove nasty-tasting medicine down his throat every day too.
K was nearly in tears a couple days before she left - she hated leaving him like this and hated asking me to do so much to take care of him. I assured her we'd be fine and of course I'll do everything that's required. I offered to go both before and after work, but she said once a day would suffice and that would make sure he's hungry enough to eat while I'm there in the evening. Also, she has some friends - a young married couple with a baby - who come over and kinda use the house while they're away... I could tell they'd been there at least once over the weekend. They're not cat people, though, and she knew they wouldn't want to deal with the sick cat; she didn't feel comfortable asking them to. But at least the cats possibly have more companionship than just me for an hour or two a day.
I hope they don't come while I'm there, though. I'd feel like I have to hang out and make small talk with them and I'm too antisocial to want to do that.
I'd hang out more if I could get online there, but my laptop wouldn't work when I tried. I guess she doesn't have one of those wireless router things? But she has a laptop she gets online with so I'm not sure what the deal is - maybe I have to try other spots in the house? Or maybe mine just has to be configured first somehow?
I named my laptop Anakin. Couldn't help myself. I hope my other cats don't get jealous and think that I named it after my feline Anakin.
Oh! And apparently we were on TV yesterday - we had extremely good seats at the baseball game (thanks to our connections to the visiting team!) and A. called me. I thought he was bullshitting but he described what all 4 of us were wearing, the order we were sitting in, and the guy in front of us. Ha! We were lined up with the camera that shows the left-handed batters. So after that my bro and I started flashing gang signs when the lefties came up. Subtly, of course. Hehehe, we're dorks.
ETA: Today is June 26th! Happy House-Owning Anniversary to me. It's been 3 years today since I closed on my house :)
