I'm a rebel - I'm not doing this week's [livejournal.com profile] thefridayfive. A couple questions are very similar to ones already covered and one would be way too personal if I answered it honestly. Might get around to putting the story on my playground filter one of these days.

I got to work this morning and noticed there'd been a power surge last night. My computer was off and the clocks on the kitchen appliances were wrong. I started up my computer and NOTHING WORKED. Summoned the IT guy, who quickly pronounced it DEAD. He brought me a new hard drive and was able to get most of my icons back on there. I have to wait for our parent company's IT department to call me back for one very important one that's missing. *sigh* Such fun on a Friday morning! It wasn't just me - someone else's computer got fried too. Whew.

My boss, who is also the IT guy's boss, says I should be turning off my computer every night. The IT guy says no, just log out of the network, don't turn it off (which is what I've been doing for years). "Mom and Dad" need to agree! Which is better for the computer?

Oh, and apparently our air conditioner here got somewhat fried. It's 90 degrees in here. Good thing I don't mind it hot. Some people complain if it's like 74. Wusses.

Mountain trip tomorrow, yay! I'll be gone Saturday morning through Monday night. Maybe I'll do another dorky voicepost on my way out of town.

Happy Birthday to Ian McDiarmid! (Palpatine)
My inner-D! bubbled to the surface last night (not to be confused with IC!Palpatine). Remind me to tell you what I mean on AIM, I'm not posting it here. *snerkle*

I don't know why I didn't tell you on AIM last night, actually. You'll get a kick out of it.

I've had a busy week but I was on for a little bit last night :P You might have already been catching up on your delinquent sleep account, though.

Did you get drunk and have sex with a random guy you met in a club? >.>

You should turn your computer off, I think. It gives it a chance to rest.

HELL NO. Silly girl. And he hasn't done that since the first night back from Iego :P

I think I'll do that cuz I don't want the boss to yell if this happens again. I didn't have that computer very long, either. A couple years, maybe.

*snickers* Well, you SAID it was D!-ish.

Good idea. Plus it keeps your data from being lost - and supposedly people can hack into your computer easier if it's on and connected, but I've no idea how true that really is. (I'd assume you're behind at least one firewall.)

I think you can have both on there. Do you have a router? Or was that Becca's? I don't know if that matters for a desktop, though - don't mind me, I know nothing. Won't your lovely daughter come set you up? She gets off on that stuff!

NO - NO MEN!!!! I had to listen to more "Oh you and so-and-so would get along great" last night. I wanted to kill younglings.

oh that is my pet peeve people not turning off computers...*eeeeek* it starts from the makers telling you not to do it, so then they can sell you a new one later. i think it is a crime to leave computers on!!!!!!!
it wears out the computer and i forgot what it is but it's like if everyone turned off their computer at night it would save enough electricity to power Vegas for 10 years or something. oooh now i won't be able to sleep thinking of all those computers on!
what mountain are you going to ? you should show photos!! :)

I did have photos online at one point in time but I'm pretty sure that account expired. I don't think I've taken any with my digital camera. It's the White Mountains - Payson area - I don't know if you would have seen signs for that coming over from New Mexico :P I have some pics I could scan in, though. Next time I scan stuff maybe I'll dig some out :)
