I watched the History Channel's Star Wars shows last night. I enjoyed them both. The legacy one kind of made me miss being in school. It's been eons. I've forgotten soooooo much. No wonder I often feel stupid. Every day more of my brain cells die off, never to be replaced. It sucks getting old. I'm not stupid in that I can't grasp concepts and learn things, but I'm stupid in that I don't remember things and thus can't draw on this wealth of knowledge to form opinions about stuff.

Yeah, that probably didn't make sense. *drinks more coffee*

You may notice my layout is a little tweaked. I'm not changing layouts, because OMG I can't do THAT! But now that I have a header that shows up I have to mess with the colors. The LJ post that I use for hexadecimal color codes doesn't have my desired colors listed, and since there are over 16 million of them I'm not sure where to go to find what I want. Meh. It can wait.

I finally messed with Bertha, the Ancient Computer, and deleted all my personal crap off there. I wanted to save some of it but ran into a Catch 22 issue with my backup drive and just ended up saying "fuck it, I'm deleting" to everything. If T's husband still wants her, he can have her, otherwise she's getting donated to a recycle group.

After cleaning up that whole computery area, I have an idea about where to set up my Star Wars shrine. It's going to be cluttery-looking no matter where I put it, so I just have to accept that and do it anyway.

Now I know how to hook up the PS2 to my TV - it's amazingly simple. Still, I don't know that I'll be playing it much without my brother. I need him to coach me and laugh at me when I accidentally set a detonator instead of dispense bacta.

And I'm on (shared) door duty this week. Boooooo. Better than phone duty, though.

I foresee not getting a whole lot done at work today. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Y HELO THAR! I'm at work early, so I am messing around on the computer in the break room. Just thought I'd drop a line and say hi.

I would love for you to come visit me in Seattle sometime. I can get you into the Science Center for free, and also take you to the Science Fiction Museum (which has Star Wars stuff, of course) for cheap (because I get in there free.) You'd love it here. If you're feeling "old", it definitely helps you feel like a kid again. ^_^

I'm glad you're enjoying it there! And glad you no longer have to type "Purgatory" as your location on your posts. Thanks for the invitation - one of these days I may actually leave the state! Haven't been out of Arizona since Dec.'05.

Yeah, most electronic-y stuff is generally easier to hook up to TVs than most people think it is. Which reminds me, I need to steal my dad's DVD player so that I can watch QaF. Woo!

Also, you totally need to slack at work...because I said so. :P

The Nintendo was a bitch and needed an adaptor or something... cuz it's old, I guess. And the Atari wasn't the simplest either. Yeah, I'm dating myself here.

Yay! If you give me permission to slack, I may slack.

I quit trying to win QaF season 5 on eBay after a couple more outbiddings, and just ordered it off Amazon. Found a used one for $53, that's not too bad.

Date: 2007-05-29 06:09 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sanestlunatic.livejournal.com
Yeah, modern stuff is simple. I'd imagine that the older things are hard, simply because I used to have an older TV and VCR in my room, and they were really stupid about being hooked up sometimes.

Awww. $53 is too expensive for me (though I totally just pre-ordered a $50 video game). Granted, I usually spend $60-70 on a season of Doctor Who, but that's different. I need my Doctor Who. (So do all my friends.)

Date: 2007-05-29 06:16 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lumy12.livejournal.com
Bah, don't need Dr. Who. QaF is far more important.

I kinda wish I had to pay the $4k+ already instead of just having it loom over me... then again, maybe if I wish hard enough, it will go away. I'm trying not to spend money, really. But I can't NOT get the final season!

Date: 2007-05-29 06:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sanestlunatic.livejournal.com
Doctor Who is better. :P Except for the bits with Rose. >.>

I need to get on the whole getting off board thing so that I can save money. Except that I'm going to wind up spending most of the money I saved on the fee for my single. Whoops.

Sure you can. You can use that free trial of Netflix and not spend any money on it. :P

Date: 2007-05-29 06:28 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lumy12.livejournal.com
Nooooooooo I can't use Netflix for THAT! I need to watch over and over! Just like everything else I don't ever have time to watch over and over! Ha ha.

I love your new header *lol*

What's (shared) door duty?

Why is everybody giving their computers names? I need to do that. I just can't come up with a name that would go with my computer. Or rather: that I wouldn't want to change a month later ;)

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about up there in the first paragraph! It's what naturally happens if you don't use the knowledge you've acquired every single day. And it sucks! I want to go back to school. But first I need a sponsor to pay my rent in the meantime. Or I need to convince our government to finally introduce evening study programs at our universities!!! Gnah!!! I'd still need a sponsor though... but a less generous one would do in that case :D

Blah, sorry, I'm incredibly rambly today...

Isn't it gorgeous?

Our executive assistant is off all week and they decided not to get a temp to fill in for her. So when the doorbell rings in the front lobby I, and others, are supposed to help answer it. I'm not busy this week so it's not a big deal but interruptions are annoying.

Yeah, it does suck. You make more effort to keep using your knowledge and talents than I do. And you should just move to the USA, we have night classes :)

Date: 2007-05-29 04:22 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ascendingflame.livejournal.com
It definitely is. He wouldn't have to kill me to get me into his bed on his side.

Ahhhhh! Door duty!!! I get it! *lol* Sorry, I thought this was something much more complicated. *lol* I'm not myself today. Need to find out who I actually am today...

LJ is actually the biggest use I make of my university degree nowdays *lol*

I know you have night classes in the US! *is envious* I'd still need a sponsor to even get there *lol*

Man, I really want to run out to McDonald's for lunch. Bad Wendy. I should just eat the yogurt I brought. *sigh* I don't even have PMS as an excuse.

*resists urge to Force-choke!* Heeee, nah, I'll just blame you. I've talked myself out of it for now because the car is parked under the covered parking, which is far away, and it makes more sense to just wait 'til after work when I'm already IN the car to go drive through somewhere. Unless I can talk myself into going straight home and eating soup for dinner like a good girl. But I'll deal with that later!

lol Right, Obi!

You know what? It's May 29. I can start dieting June 1. Diets don't work when you try to start them at the end of the month anyhow. So I should cram as much bad stuff in me as I can for the rest of the month.

Though I did just eat my yogurt so I'm okay 'til after work now. Unless G makes popcorn. Mmmmm, I hope she does. But that'll be later in the afternoon.

Date: 2007-05-29 07:08 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ascendingflame.livejournal.com
*hehe* Obi's cool. Not as sexy as Ani but cool! :D

That's a very good point about diets not working at the end of a month. I've actually noticed that before but wasn't sure. You're as wise as Yoda *bows* though not as green...

OOh, good girl. Yoghurts are good really. They're good for you and they're sweet. Not like veggies. They're just green like Yoda. *gah* I've heard that popcorn is not that bad - unless you make them with tons of butter... But just popcorn... :)

Date: 2007-05-29 07:28 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lumy12.livejournal.com
I can blow a diet with the best of 'em at any time of the month, truly. But in the past I've had success staying motivated at the beginning of the month, or year. The whole "I haven't blown it yet this month/year" thing, I guess.

Popcorn the way I like it is bad. Oodles of grease! Mmmmm, so yummy. I had extra-buttery popcorn every day this weekend. Shame on me.

Of course, I can go off my diet when I do my SW marathon. Have to eat junk food all day to keep up my strength! (June 14 is the day)

Date: 2007-05-29 07:37 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ascendingflame.livejournal.com
So, that's when you'll be disappearing only to re-emerge with an even bigger obsession *g* And you can't be on a diet on such a day. Honestly, film marathons without junk food? That's unheard of!

I'm not into popcorn that much. Probably because they don't make the greasy good stuff over here *g* I'd have to buy them and make them myself and I don't like that, it's always such a mess. Naw, not into popcorn. I prefer chocolate, ice-cream, pizza... *sighs* I will not talk about food and make myself even more hungry, I will not talk about food and make myself even more hungry, I will not talk about food....

Date: 2007-05-29 07:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lumy12.livejournal.com
You know it!

Yes, junk food is a must. You don't have extra buttery microwave popcorn over there? You poor thing! No more food talk, no more food talk...

(did Marco ever make it home?)

Date: 2007-05-29 07:49 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ascendingflame.livejournal.com
I do! :D

Microwave popcorn... I need to check that out. We don't have much variety of that. Yeah, I only ever eat popcorn at the cinema. I really don't like making it myself. And I'm not really a microwave person. I still distrust the thing. I only use it to defrost because it just is so much quicker with it!! *g*

(He did. He's now amused by my LJ entry and all the comments about PotC - the official one without the gushing ;))

Date: 2007-05-29 07:53 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lumy12.livejournal.com
You distrust the thing? You're worse than my dad, even he uses them now :P At least you cook, though. I rely TOO much on the microwave.

I see, you filtered the gushing one so he wouldn't see. *snicker* Clever girl.

Date: 2007-05-29 07:57 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ascendingflame.livejournal.com
Yeah, I admit, I'm really old fashioned when it comes to microwaves. As I said, I only use it to defrost things. For everything else I use more conventional methods *g*

Yeah, I thought it might be a bit tactless to let him witness my gushing. He knows I do but that might be a bit much ;)

Date: 2007-05-29 08:21 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lumy12.livejournal.com
I might have to hop over to your journal again and check out the PotCness... cuz I still have 2.5 hours to kill and the less work I do the better. Just the mood I'm in. Slack mode!

And, randomly... I've only answered the door once today so far, and it was a cute maintenance guy, so I really didn't mind :)

I just discussed that with Marco and we think he actually WAS cute in that "Aw, I'm that poor cursed creature who's lost the love of my life" kind of way.

I really think [livejournal.com profile] pnr finds him cute in a different sense though *g* And yes, it is amusing.

Thanks, I will try to dream of one of them... or all three? *g* No, I can't take Ani from you. I'm quite content with just the two. ;)

*slacks at work again to comment* Ooh, the new header looks great! I keep meaning to install one on my writing journal, and then forgetting. Mostly because I'm not in a fiddling-with-code mood right now, and installing a header will, unfortunately, require fiddling with code.

You name your computers too! My old silver POS is called Matilda, and my current brand-new shiny one is named Frank. I like Frank a lot better because he has a ton more room for me to store all my picspam and music and stuff. Although Matilda isn't as much of a POS as she used to be since I got her battery fixed.

And it's true what you say about being in school, and how it forces you to learn (forces ... heh, excuse the pun, I've had waaaay more coffee than is healthy for me this morning) things that you might not otherwise encounter. I haven't found it to be the best learning environment for me specifically, though, I do better when I'm reading on my own and learning things that are fun to know.

*goes back to what she's supposed to be doing* *no, really*

Amber force-fed me the code so I HAD to try it. But now the colors kinda piss me off cuz I can't find the PERFECT hues for everything like I want it. Oh well.

Yeah, since they seem to MAKE you name them when you set them up... though I discovered that I accidentally named both my desktop and my laptop "Anakin." Whoops. I can be more imaginative than that, really. Sometimes.

Yay coffee buzzes! I have one now too! The second cup works wonders. And yes, researching things that are Star Wars-related is infinitely more fun than... well, most anything else.

My laptop was Quin (<3) till it had all of its innards replaced, so I changed its name to Anakin (kind of a reverse-Anakin, but you get the idea). My old one that became comatose was named Depa. >.>

I also name other assorted electronics and musical instruments. Which reminds me, I need to come up with a name for my Wii.

I'm better at learning on my own - probably because class is the most boring thing ever, and I learn more through reading than I do through lectures. (I have awesome reading comprehension, but I can't remember anything anybody ever tells me.)

You people and your things that you're supposed to be doing. *sideways glance at the paper that's due in three hours* There's nothing wrong with an eight-page paper being six pages, right? >.> Damnit, I can't bullshit that much.

I saw part of that, but it didn't seem to say anything really new to me? I didn't watch much though.. what did you get out of it?

Date: 2007-05-29 08:56 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lumy12.livejournal.com
Which one did you see part of? The technical one came on first, that definitely had new stuff in it - they talked to scientists about how Earth science can or cannot duplicate the science of the galaxy far far away... my favorite part of that was the idea that Vader could power up his suit by pissing on a battery. *snicker*

If you saw the Legacy show, the one with all the mythology references... a lot of that probably wasn't new to people, but I've forgotten pretty much all the mythology I ever learned. It was cool hearing Peter Jackson and Joss Whedon give their thoughts on Star Wars. And the guy who liked Jabba, he was funny - don't remember who he was though.

Thanks for helping me slack at work by commenting here with a question! Hehehe, I'm bad.
