Wow.

I just saw Into the Wild. I'm SO going to steal the book from my brother now. I really do need to read non-fandom-related things.

Anyone on my f-list seen it/read it? What did you think?

((yes, I realize that my icon is not "the wild" - but it's the closest one I have to it, I think!))

I saw the film and i cried :(. I want to read the book, had it given to me by a friend a while ago (got given a bunch of books actually as she was doing a clean-out) but haven't gotten around to reading it yet. It's on the list though!

I cried too - as did many people in the theatre. Kind of hard not to! Sooooooooo sad! I bet the moose part hit you especially hard. :(

I read it back in high school. I thought it was depressing and stupid. But that was my high school self and I don't really like nature stuff, so I might feel differently now.

Very depressing, yes. I thought the movie was really powerful. What did you think was stupid? Or was it too long ago to really recall?

You young whippersnapper - it hadn't happened yet when I was in high school or I might have read it too :)

It is getting a bit long ago to recall details, but I remember thinking he was stupid for putting himself in that situation. But again, I can't remember too much of the plot so I don't know if I would feel the same way if I were to read it again now.

..I'm not so much a nature chick. I don't like that Grizzly Bear dude b/c I thought he was stupid for messing with bears, and I used to not be a fan of Steven Irwin because all I saw of him was going up and messing with animals (after his death I started watching more of his shows with Sam and realized what his goal actually was).

And.. it was an assignment book. So having to read it for class might have had something to do with my disliking it as well. We got to pick from different books to read that year:
The Bell Jar
East of Eden
Into the Wild
and others.
I think I chose Into the Wild because it was one of the smallest, lol.

Hehe, yeah, I used to pick the shortest books on the list too. What kid didn't? I can't even remember if I read The Bell Jar but I want to read it now as an adult. Literature is wasted on youth!

I didn't read The Bell Jar b/c I heard about how depressing it was and I certainly didn't need to read about a suicidal woman at that point in my life (not that I was suicidal, just emotional).

I did however read East of Eden (ironically, the largest book on the list) and I loved it. Great story, like a soap opera, only not as trashy.

I think I have East of Eden somewhere... but if I ever read it I don't remember it one bit!

I've read it! We just read it for my AP classm it was good! There are a few chapters that don't focus on Chris, though, those were annoying, but the rest of the book was really good!

How was the movie? I've been wanting to see it, but it's not in a theater near me :(

The movie was awesome! You'll have to check it out when it comes to dvd. My brother thought it followed the book pretty well. I cried more than I usually do in theatres. That's always the sign of a good movie!

Yknow, now that designmusic mentioned how a small part of the book covers a different adventurer other than Chris, now that part fully clicked in my head. The major part I was thinking they didn't cover in the movie - that's cuz it wasn't Chris, it was that other guy's experience I was recalling and mixing up, so now I can't think of anything major that was missed in the movie.

Ohhhhhhh. Why even bother putting someone in there other than Chris? Weird.

Nope, haven't seen it, or read the book. Heh. Books. That's cute.

I think you'd like the main character. I might have to force you to watch this movie when I get the dvd.

I probably shouldn't use this icon anymore, huh. >.>

No, you shouldn't. It's expired. I'm sure I'd like the movie. But everyone said they're crying at the end, so I'm thinking I know how it ends.

Awesome! I wonder what extra was put in there, just for me? You totally didn't have to, but I don't really blame you, now that I think about it.

Yay, I can't wait either!
Ignore Aaron, he has no idea what it is. If he knew it was a blow-up Anakin Skywalker, he wouldn't be so eager for me to get it ;)
