Tonight I offered to carry a child for my friend. Due to the expense, it probably won't happen, but I was serious and made sure she knew I was serious. I suppose it would be cheaper if we went the "turkey baster" route (can we do that at home?)... ewww. In vitro would be preferred, obviously.

It's a bit freaky, isn't it, that just on my earlier post I said something along the lines of "And that's the closest I'll ever get to being pregnant!" in the comments. Heh.

I would TOTALLY be a good incubator. I'd eat healthier and sleep more and everything for 9 months.

Damn, too bad in vitro's like $20,000 just for a TRY, no guarantees. I kind of want to do this now!

Isn't the hardest part of incubating someone else's baby giving it to them when it's born?

From: [identity profile] lumy12.livejournal.com
I'd have a harder time with that if it was MY baby. Still, I think I could handle it - I'm already 100% sure I'm not going to have any kids of my own. And I could totally be "Auntie Wendy" to this one.

That's the beauty, you can give the kid back!

Exactly. I wouldn't have to disrupt my orderly little life!

So, let me get this straight. You have a "coffee date" last night with someone who is not a "boy," yet you come home wanting to carry some guy's sperm.

OH to be a fly on the wall at this coffee date to listen in on THAT conversation!!!

From: [identity profile] lumy12.livejournal.com
HA! Perhaps "date" was the wrong word. But it was a date, I mean I put it on my calendar and everything!

That's awesome.

And yeah, I saw some show about a gay couple who was having a woman carry their baby and they did the turkey baster method at home many many times before she got pregnant.

In vitro would be better. Maybe the price will come down cuz it's been around a while... HA!

Haha, yeah, I totally agree.

Yep, you can totes do the insemination thing at home. :D

You'll have to keep us informed if your friend ends up changing her mind! Wow!

Of course, dah-ling :)
She doesn't have a problem getting pregnant, it's the staying pregnant that's difficult for her for whatever reason. It's so unfair.

when i read the first line i thought you were talking about literally picking up their kid and carrying it. then i read the second sentance and i thought "why is that expensive? did it hurt her back?"
i'm dum.

That is a very noble thing you offered to do. In actually, if you have the proper lab equipment and a person certified to handle genetic materials, then you could cut the cost down quite dramatically for in vitro. You're half way there already!

>.> Are you saying that I, with my degree in medical sciences, certified in genetic biotechnology, am not good enough?

Yes, I have a degree in medical sciences which provided the basic groundwork for my degree in math and science education certification.

The "turkey baster" route can be done at home. Glad that someone else has already provided the links. In vitro would be preferred... and you would likely use HER eggs instead of yours, which would make it more "their" baby and less yours. If that makes sense...

That's SO WEIRD, we were just talking about you being pregnant! LOL

Being an incubator is tiring, complicated, dirty work... very, very noble of you to wish to do it OPTIONALLY and not get to reap the rewards yourself!

(Being pregnant, I think you're nuts to want to become pregnant optionally. But I still love you even though you're nuts. ;) )

Exactly, ideally it would be completely THEIR baby. Less hangups that way.

I knoooooooow!

Oh you know you love it :P ♥ I know some of it wouldn't be pleasant, but some of it would be pretty miraculous to experience, ya know? It would be worth it to help them out.

But samples wouldn't be good, ideally it would be THEIR stuff getting implanted. And if not both of theirs for expense reasons or whatever, then his, but that could get sticky.

...no pun intended. Heh.

What brought it on? I hate seeing my friend suffer, it makes me want to do whatever I can to help her. And really, it's not like I'd be having children of my own, this wouldn't be getting "in the way" of anything for me.
