I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! Mine was nice. Mostly.

I am being naughty, posting at work again. Last day before my boss comes back so a little slacking is allowed. *sage nod*

I've been thinking about [livejournal.com profile] mission101 again (101 things in 1001 days). I think I can make it work for me, I just need to allow plenty of room for additions and get used to having stuff hanging over my head. I should be getting better at that in my old age -- I'm okay with my mortgage payment now, after all, and nothing could loom over me more than that!

I'm going to be working on my list over the next week. I don't know if I'll have it ready to go by January 1st; I'm not going to stress about the start date. ETA: 1/1/09 WILL be my start date -- with all the progress I've made on it today, there's no reason for me not to be done with it before then. ...how failtastic would it be to fail at finishing the list on time!

Have any of you done this before? I'm curious about what worked for you/what didn't work/what you'd do differently/etc. ([livejournal.com profile] snowflakie06, you started one last year, didn't you?)

*yaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn* Maybe I'll take a nice little catnap after work.

Since you happen to be the master of adding more work to your list of things to do before you finish the old things on your list, I suggest you not do this.

Never fear, I am allowing for list growth & modification! I'm also allowing for reasonable failure (as in, for weekly tasks, I don't HAVE to do it for all 143 weeks for it to be considered complete).

Besides, I have YOU to keep me on track -- you'll probably be the only person on my f-list who actually DOES check back on my progress ^_^ LOL

Oh, P.S. I sorta capslock-whined at you on Jess's post in the OOC comm. *bats eyelashes at* Please help me O Anal One!

Yes! I am the only one who makes sure you do what you say you're going to do!

Wait... what whining?!

You're so good at it! Are you proud that I didn't ask you to do some math for me to start this off?

Um... you'll see. It's the only post I've commented on this week :)

>.> Yes....

I see the post now. I'm recapping everything that happened from Dec 22-now.

Thank you Nam, you're awesome!!!

Then I can actually play tonight instead of frantically trying to catch up! <3

Yep, I started one in time for the beginning of 2008 but... um... I'm so failing at it haha For a few months there I actually completely forgot about the list in its entirety so that screwed me up a ton XD I'm thinking of redoing it though and making some things more general and less specific. Like one of my things was to visit my brother but I did something similar and went out to California but because I put down 'visit my brother in Arizona' I can't cross it off when the main goal was really to get on a plane again. So, yeah, I recommend you be careful with stuff like that. And the fact that there are 1001 days and only 101 things you should leave a lot blank. I left a few blank but I think I should have left a few more of them blank.

Ah! Good advice. I definitely plan to allow for changes. Like, I would cross off the brother one, since you did achieve your goal even though you didn't do it to the letter. If you do restart yours maybe we can keep each other on track? I'm thinking maybe I WILL have it ready to go by January 1st. That's such a tidy start date.

I hope I don't forget about it! But I also don't want to watch that comm because it's far too busy (and honestly I don't care to read strangers' lists; I may peruse them once in a while for motivation or something but definitely don't want to read them all the time!) so I can see how maybe if you get busy it gets neglected for a while...

One thing I'm thinking about doing is designating a calendar to be sure I update my progress weekly (and keep the calendar in a very accessible place, maybe email myself reminders until I get used to doing it). If I can establish THAT habit early on I think I should be okay!

You know, I just spent some time looking over my list and seeing what I could change and what would have to stay the same and what I've completed, etc. and as of right now I've completed about 25 things. A few things need to be changed though because I've now realized they're impossible. Like reorganizing my bedroom furniture. I've gone over it and over it in my head and my bedroom can just not be set up any other way so hopefully what I'll do before January 1st is just cross off what I can't do and change it to something else and maybe that's cheating, I don't know right now, but it's a lot better than thinking for example "oh crap, I decided not to finish writing Portal of the Past 2, now there's no way I can complete the task that I put down as 'finish writing it'"

So, yeah, definitely prepare yourself for more general things. Like there I should have probably put down something like 'finish a third novel that is not part of my Heart Beats All series'.

From: [identity profile] lumy12.livejournal.com
It's not cheating! They even say on there that you can modify it however you want. That's what I will do if I decide I need to remove something, is replace it with something comparable... really will try not to remove things though unless it's due to changed circumstances. For example, if I lose my job, getting my teeth cleaned twice a year isn't gonna happen unless I get new insurance -- and certain things that require lotsa $$$ will have to get pushed back as well unless I miraculously get a job right away that pays the same or better!

And I know my limitations in some areas. Like, I just CAN'T do NaNoWriMo. I don't know how you do it every year! I could, however, participate in a mini one, possibly.

THe 101 in 1001 is certainly an interesting concept, though I think it would also be quite stressful!

The "hmmm it's an interesting concept BUT..." is where I was at about a year ago. But now it does seem quite do-able. I love to-do lists anyway, this will just be the Mother of All To-Do Lists!

A lot of the stuff is fun, too -- like the fandom portion. No need to stress! (must remind self of this) If I were better at math I'd do weighted percentages or something to keep me on track!

I need to make better use of the Nag List -- I'm afraid the only one I successfully nag is [livejournal.com profile] gizzi1213!

So, um... HEY HOW'S THE NEXT ANABASIS CHAPTER COMING ALONG! Or how about FULL OF GRACE!!!

*cough* Okay, got that outta the way. ♥

I'm allowing for revisions and failures, but I don't want to be TOO allowing because it IS supposed to make me rise to a challenge. Should my life suddenly become full of drama/angst/woe, I'll revise certain things :)

Ah, yes, that would change things... I don't see my circumstances changing much ever in the next few years so I hopefully won't have that problem. *knock on wood* But I know there may be things I'll need to revise over time.
