lumy12Last mountain trip of the year this 3-day weekend, and you know what’s annoying? It’s supposed to cool off down here (below 100!) just as I’m leaving -- and they predict RAIN. I never quite believe it when they say it will rain, because most of the time it either skips my part of town or it just "spits." I hope it does rain while I’m away, so my plants won’t be so thirsty in my absence, but it sure as heck better rain up in the mountains too. And there it should be COLD as well, yay! Then next week, the day after I come back, it’s supposed to dry out and get back into the 100s again. No fair. *whine*
Another “last”… I just read in the paper this morning that Big Surf is closing for good on Monday. They close every summer on Labor Day, but this time the owners didn’t renew for next year because they’re focusing on newer, better water parks (and apparently no one is interested in buying it). Gee, how familiar – same reason my movie theatre closed earlier this year. I really wish companies would expend the effort to remodel these places instead of just bailing, but obviously that’s not financially feasible or they’d be doing it. I can’t say I’m upset about this closure (I only worked there two summers – actually, one and a half, because I had to quit after I broke my wrist – and I never went back to visit), it just saddens me a little and reminds me I’m old. And, much as I love Starbucks, it saddens me that they drove two of my old favorite coffeeshops out of business. I feel a little guilty for liking Starbucks >.>
Now for some more cheery news: only 6 days until I see Dr. Hottie again! ♥ I sure hope it’s not for the last time. I’m doing well, but I think I can still do better and therefore I need to stay in therapy FOREVAHHHH. Speaking of therapy…not sure what’s up with Flirty Guy. He acted like a jealous bitch after Aaron came to a session with me last week. I don’t know if he believed that I didn’t plan it that way or what (Aaron showed up randomly!) but jeez, it’s not like Flirty Guy is my boyfriend! And I made it very clear to everyone that Aaron and I are just friends, anyway. That he in fact has a girlfriend. Sheesh.
I don’t know what to think about Pluto anymore. What do people want? Why do they complain about having nothing to do when plotty bits are tossed around and ignored? And why can’t they just start their own plots if they don’t like the game’s offerings? It used to happen. There were always far more player-run plots than mod ones. It’s hard not to take the drops personally. Obviously if I were super-fun to play with, these people would stay, right? Is that how every remaining player feels?
So that makes me question my own playing. RP is not SRS BZNS for me; I do it for fun. I don’t care about developing my writing or characterization skills. I mean, obviously improvement is a good thing, I’m not saying I’d be content to sail in a sea of fail or anything – but primarily it’s just for FUN. I don’t have any plans on where to lead my characters development-wise. I like to just bounce them around and see what happens. That’s what I find fun, not stressing about plot. I never really thought of this as bad before. But maybe it is? Maybe I should stick to DRs and private RP? (I’ve never actually played in a DR, though… I generally find those TOO cracky & laidback for my liking) It doesn’t help that I don’t play popular characters.
It also doesn’t help that I don’t go in the game chat; a mod says that’s not really a big deal but I’m not so sure. I just don’t like group chats. I can’t keep track of who is who and who plays who, I never know what people are talking about, I don’t stay up all night like everyone else seems to (okay so I exaggerate that a wee bit, but it reminds me I’m old and out of place among the “younglings” talking about school), and the group setting inspires an irrational competition in me which is most unpleasant due to my aforementioned fail at being in the know! I’d rather just stay away and not know what’s going on than TRY to be a part of things and STILL not know what’s going on, if that makes sense. Similar reasoning with the spam comm, though things are so slow right now it probably wouldn’t hurt me to actually watch that one :| Anyway…so participating in those things isn’t required, but I do understand how they lead to more in-game interaction. Even if you’re not specifically talking about the game, ideas spring up there, and some people prefer to RP with people they know OOCly as well, so if they can choose between tagging me or one of their chat buddies, they’re gonna pick a chat buddy.
I can be guilty of this, too, though. I was excited for the 100-day party – but got no tags. I looked back at the post later for places to tag, and there was only one other unanswered open thread, and it seemed like that person was maybe waiting for one specific person to tag – it wasn’t someone I usually played with, and by this point the plot was moving forward, so I didn’t tag it.
My board post yesterday got 2 responses. Two. (okay so now there are 3 but still) How pathetic is that? And it’s not like people weren’t around – they tagged the newbie’s post right after it (I did too because YAY NEWBIE). I also made an open log post yesterday – no one’s jumping on that. Okay, thanks to Nam'n'Grace'n'Megan tagging, THIS is all good, at least!
So I dunno. I feel kind of failtastic lately. Maybe I’ll drop Cher. But I don’t want to add to the body count, you know? I don’t think I’m doing that well with her anyway though. Blech. Okay, enough whining.
Blood donation day! I’ll update with my stats (for my own reference, really) later if they actually take me. ETA: Success!

We still RP fine, but I have to admit that not being in chats sort of does put you on the outside of the social circle? I mean, it's not terrible but you do miss a few things.
Naturally with that you miss out on plotting, too. Though, you can try and set the trend to possibly make that happen in the OOC comm. more.
I don't know, haha. I don't go to chats and I feel I do just fine? So I wouldn't worry about it. ♥
