I'm not sure what it says about me that animal issues tug at my heartstrings more than human ones, but this article from today's paper really made me sad (emphasis mine):

"A West Valley animal-rescue group is trying to find homes for about 70 animals before it loses both of its shelters to foreclosure. The animals that don't find homes will be euthanized.

The non-profit Robin Hood Animal Rescue has been saving the lives of stray animals for more than five years. But operators Bob Spangler and Shellie Dennewere were recently laid off from their jobs.

Both of their homes, where the animals were kept, are in foreclosure.

'We've made a promise that we would do our best to give them a good, loving home, and we're failing them right now,' said Dennewere, who will lose her Buckeye home on Tuesday. 'It hurts not being able to follow through on our promise to them.'

Spangler's Glendale home is set for foreclosure on Nov. 5.

All of the animals taken in were spayed or neutered, given appropriate shots and microchipped.

In addition to medical attention, Spangler and Dennewere give the animals love, something that many of them have gone without.

The rescue group is asking for help. Their priority is placing the cats and dogs in permanent homes. Donations would help them find and fund a new shelter....DONATIONS: Mail to 8255 W Jefferson St, Peoria, AZ 85345, in care of VIP Grooming."

They're having 3 adoption events near me in the next couple of weeks. I can donate money but what I really want to do is adopt a kitty :( I've never done that, believe it or not. But I can't, I just can't. Too many cats already :( :( :(

First, I have to agree that you have enough cats already, since you have six of them now.

However, I think you should convince your brother to adopt a kitty!!!! He needs a kitty at his house rather than only having kitty interaction when he goes over to your house.

That sounds like a good solution to me!

How are your kitties following their de-balling this week????

No no, I technically only have three :P

I would love for my brother to adopt one! He won't, though. His roommate has two cats, but even if he didn't (or even after he moves out) my brother doesn't want the responsibility.

They've forgiven me somewhat... I think! One of them decided it was too hot to stay outside so he's back in the house now, just hours after I gave in to their whining them their freedom :)

You want to adopt another kitty? Trying to make the sorta-your-kitties jealous that you love the new one more?

Nooooo I can't LET myself adopt a kitty :P

And I can't stand thinking about the perfectly healthy ones that are going to be put down because I can't help them :(

I understand what you mean but you can't save everyone. Just do what you can and be happy with that. You'll only set yourself up for failure if you put unrealistic expectations on yourself.

I know but... but...

:(

But if you don't put unrealistic expectations on yourself, you won't fail and prove to the world that your view that you are not worth it are true?

No, I just really wish I could do more for homeless animals, especially kitties :(

YOU should adopt one!

Setting yourself up for failure.

Why should I adopt one from Arizona. Unless you haven't noticed, that is pretty far away.

So go to a local shelter then ♥

But I thought you and Deborah decided I had lied about where I live anyway...?

How would that help those kitties not get put down?

Yes, we still believe you're stalking us but that doesn't mean the Robin Hood Animal Rescue doesn't exist in AZ.

Okay, but I'm sure kitties in your town need help too!

I'm not one for pets. I'm gone most of day.

I'm gone all day too. Cats are fine when left alone for long stretches! Not as high maintenance as dogs!

You're telling me to trap kitties in a house on Hoth?

Date: 2009-10-18 11:11 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lumy12.livejournal.com
YES!!!

Can't be any worse than trapping them in a house on Tatooine. It was 102 degrees here yesterday, ewwww. Only 100 today I think.

Let's ask the sorta-your-kitties on their opinions on this.

The poor things. Their coats are starting to thicken because it was getting cooler (and it IS cooler at night)... wonder if they'll start shedding again now!

They were inside all weekend though, until a few hours ago. They drove me nuts.

So... they stayed in your home now. New definition of your kitties please.

My kitties stay inside 24/7. ANAKIN RUNNING OUTSIDE WHEN HE'S BEING NAUGHTY DOESN'T COUNT.

Heeeeee, did you know there's a Crazy Cat Lady board game??? I want it! The goal is to get as many kitties as you can!

From: [identity profile] darkp-hawk.livejournal.com
Only because you use their whining as an excuse to let them out.

Ah, but do the kitties count as your kitties?

Dude, they were whining nonstop all night Friday, off and on Saturday. My instructions were to keep them inside for 2-3 days and I managed 2!

I don't know, I'd have to read the rules...

Aw. ;; That's terrible. I really hope they find good homes. Maybe you could call and ask what you can do to get the word out, since you can't take any more pets? I'm sure they'd like whatever help they can get.

That's a good idea -- I'm sending $ but that doesn't help the animals get into homes :(

I should link the adoption page to everyone at work...

Oooo when's Vegas? Win big!

Are you asking me to pick out a dog for you? I don't think so, missy, you'd have to do that yourself! I'd go with you if it's a non-work time though I fear I'd end up taking a kitty home, ack.
