A different Robin Hood...
Oct. 18th, 2009 01:28 pmI'm not sure what it says about me that animal issues tug at my heartstrings more than human ones, but this article from today's paper really made me sad (emphasis mine):
"A West Valley animal-rescue group is trying to find homes for about 70 animals before it loses both of its shelters to foreclosure. The animals that don't find homes will be euthanized.
The non-profit Robin Hood Animal Rescue has been saving the lives of stray animals for more than five years. But operators Bob Spangler and Shellie Dennewere were recently laid off from their jobs.
Both of their homes, where the animals were kept, are in foreclosure.
'We've made a promise that we would do our best to give them a good, loving home, and we're failing them right now,' said Dennewere, who will lose her Buckeye home on Tuesday. 'It hurts not being able to follow through on our promise to them.'
Spangler's Glendale home is set for foreclosure on Nov. 5.
All of the animals taken in were spayed or neutered, given appropriate shots and microchipped.
In addition to medical attention, Spangler and Dennewere give the animals love, something that many of them have gone without.
The rescue group is asking for help. Their priority is placing the cats and dogs in permanent homes. Donations would help them find and fund a new shelter....DONATIONS: Mail to 8255 W Jefferson St, Peoria, AZ 85345, in care of VIP Grooming."
They're having 3 adoption events near me in the next couple of weeks. I can donate money but what I really want to do is adopt a kitty :( I've never done that, believe it or not. But I can't, I just can't. Too many cats already :( :( :(

Date: 2009-10-18 09:02 pm (UTC)However, I think you should convince your brother to adopt a kitty!!!! He needs a kitty at his house rather than only having kitty interaction when he goes over to your house.
That sounds like a good solution to me!
How are your kitties following their de-balling this week????

Date: 2009-10-18 09:12 pm (UTC)I would love for my brother to adopt one! He won't, though. His roommate has two cats, but even if he didn't (or even after he moves out) my brother doesn't want the responsibility.
They've forgiven me somewhat... I think! One of them decided it was too hot to stay outside so he's back in the house now, just hours after I gave
in to their whiningthem their freedom :)no subject

Date: 2009-10-18 10:39 pm (UTC)Why should I adopt one from Arizona. Unless you haven't noticed, that is pretty far away.

though I fear I'd end up taking a kitty home, ack.
