Androgyny

Just to clarify - no I don't think men are scum. There are plenty of wonderful guys out there. But why oh why do ALL of them have to be a jerk about sex at some point or another?

I'm not going to go into detail here (the parentals may decide to check this out, after all, and that's just weird) - but Aaron being a "jerk" about it has more to do with my shortcomings than his. Guys can't help how they're wired and all that. I wish to God I could be a guy for a week so I could really understand what the testosterone does to them. How much better would this world be if guys and girls could switch sexes as needed whenever they don't understand something about each other?

Sometimes I wonder if I'm just not girlfriend material. I'm much better at being a "girl friend" without the two words mushing together and implying a sexual relationship. It's immature, I know. I am the first to admit I am immature in this area. I don't know how much I can blame on the past and how much is just who I am. I've never had very much interest in it, other than to use it or the IDEA of it to manipulate. Give me a good movie or a good book and I'll take that over sex any day.

Well, I'm going to Vegas in the morning to help drive all of Aaron's crap home, I hope we can set aside our differences and enjoy new year's weekend together. Happy New Year, all of you!

Speaking of Around the Sun, you should tell me what your fav song on it is, if you've listened to it a couple times and have one. And try to guess mine. Cuz playing silly little R.E.M. games like that is mega-cool.

Uhhhhhhh.... uhhhhhhhhh.....
(okay, that's getting old now, huh)
I don't really have a favorite.... I like Boy in the Well a lot though. I guess since that popped in my head first it must be a favorite! I know you like that one too - right?

No, of course that's not getting old - it'll never get old, cuz it's great. I used it at a poker get-together Sun. night too, and of course the cool people like Zach and Michael knew what I was doing, so we talked about Matchstick a bit, and I got to rave about Alison Lohman again. I gotta see your Lifetime movie with her sometime - I guess I should be thankful that you actually watch that channel so much now.

It was great to see Zach again (he's a friend from Toys) - he's one of the coolest people you could ever meet, so it brings out my fun goofy side, kinda like when I used to hang with my "long lost twin" Brandon. Not to mention actually doing something with M was cool too, and seeing a few other Toys peeps.

So, Around the Sun: you made a good choice, but it's not my fav. "Boy in the Well" has that great, disturbing-sounding beginning, so it is one of the best, but I'd say it's no higher than 3rd in my ranks for that album. My faves are "High Speed Train" and "The Outsiders." Train hit me right away as a great song, and Outsiders has steadily grown on me. The inclusion of Q-tip in it is excellent - yeah, that would be a rapper, Stad, not something from your medicine cabinet. His solo rap songs didn't impress me (the few that I've heard, as I hardly keep up with the genre much anymore), but his smooth voice brings some force to this song. He complements Stipe well, cuz if it were some hardcore gangsta rapper, it'd be too thuggy and contrasting.

I don't know if you've kept up with my board lately, but we got into a little spat, so it's been interesting.

You're right, I thought a Q-tip was one of those little cotton swabby things. Illegal cat toy. I'm so white.

I haven't read the board this week, I was trying to just now but I can't get into hotmail. What does that have to do with it? Well, the only way I know how to get to it is a link in one of your emails that I saved. I should forward that to my prodigy address so I can open it at home and bookmark it. Can't bookmark it at work, though, and that's usually where I read your stuff. I'll have time tomorrow, I think. Perhaps illegally - lunch tomorrow is catered, and better than that - FREE - so I shouldn't really have time to look but I can sneak into it for a few minutes without too much guilt. Heck, I don't go out on smoke breaks every half hour like SOME people do!

I used "illegally" twice in this post. Groovy, baby.

By the time I listen to R.E.M. again I'll have forgotten your favorite songs.... I announced at lunch yesterday that I was listening to my CDs in alpha order and I got some puzzled stares, it was awesome. I did add that I'm doing it because I'm psychotic. So it's not like I don't KNOW that I am.

Thanks for writing on here! Everyone else, besides other live journal users, is either not reading or they're afraid.... very afraid....

Monk-ness

Yeah, you should admit that you have some Monk-ness in you! (meaning your alpha order CD project - I can't imagine ever doing that, cuz I have to listen to stuff that fits my mood.) Embrace your inner Monk-ness!

I've missed watching Monk - I never started watching any new ones at all this season. Eventually, I'll prob'ly be buying some complete DVD set of that show in the future, cuz it's so hilarious. I did get to see a couple episodes on New Year's Day, cuz they were having a 24-hour Monk mararthon - hell yeah! But I had already seen those episodes, I think from the 2nd season. They were two of the best though, cuz one was when Monk ended up filling in as the umpire for a little league game - HA! He couldn't decide what to call for each pitch, cuz it's not a perfect science and all, and he had to call timeout a lot to get homeplate absolutely spotless!

The other episode was possibly my FAVORITE too, so that was great to see again. Monk ends up filling in (notice that's a trend for his investigative work) as an actor in a play, and it's so hilarious - he has to use an accent, which sounds awful, he has to laugh, which is totally awkward since he never does, and the best part is how his character is supposed to be just out of prison, this tough guy, and supposed to throw over the table, spilling the dishes and all, but of course Monk can't do that - instead he individually places all the dishes on the floor and still says the line which doesn't fit any longer "WHO ORDERED THE TOSSED SALAD!"

Why am I rambling about this - hell, I don't know, prob'ly cuz the other board felt a little weird the past couple days, so I'm hesitant to check it right now but felt like writing anyway. Everything's okay, but I've dwelled on the topics on that board too much lately - we had a sports dispute, but resolved it.

I'm just feeling really weird right now - my Stripes situation is tough, as I knew it would be. It's tough to be reminded of perfection like that again, knowing that I won't get anything but heartache as a result of it. I can enjoy the simple pleasures of it, and allow it to kind of artificially give me a happy boost, but I know it doesn't last.

(P.S. I also missed E.R. this week, if it was even on - was it, and if so, was it new?)

You missed ER??????? YES it was new, and it was all about ABBY so I'm surprised at you, you silly Stad. I THINK I still have it on tape.... I'm 99% sure. I'll let you know.

No buying Monk dvds when someone has a BIRTHDAY coming up!

I did read the board, but not every last detail. I was really just looking for Stripes stuff cuz that's more interesting than long-ass basketball vs. soccer debates! I noticed you hadn't posted anything in the past week.

It's not much better on the other side

Yeah, the boyfriend thing sucks. I have felt the exact opposite this last year. Try having my history and dating the 33-year-old virgin!

I think women and men are taught early on to use sex is a weapon, and we both can do it very well. I read somewhere once that women use sex to get love and men use love to get sex. I think it's an unfair generalization, but it's food for thought.

I had to ask myself whether the difference in our sexual desires would be a deal breaker or not. It's a hard question to honestly ask. But better to address it now than years down the road.... Good luck to you!!

I remember I was going to reply to your post that mentions your 33-year-old virgin boyfriend but decided not to for some reason.

Wanna trade boyfriends? Mine can be really sweet - not romantic, but sweet nonetheless. And he's really cute. He'll do anything you ask him to do around the house. He'll take you out to dinner every night. And yes he'll sleep with you! Well, only if you guys hit it off, I guess :)

Or, a better idea, I should let you talk to him and give him pointers on how to deal with it (I mean, come on, there are things you can do to alleviate those urges! Why is sex such a big deal???)

We ended up not even talking about it again last weekend, and now he's in quite a mood, won't talk to anyone. (I've learned not to take these little tantrums of his seriously - I attempt to call him once a day, if he feels like calling he can call back, if not, oh well) We do have to address it though. Better now than later, like you say. Thanks!

He'll do anything you ask him to do around the house.

Except you never asked him to do the one thing he really wanted to do around the house!!! LMAO!!!

I'm amused that my brother and I were talking R.E.M. in the above thread, too. Ha! And he mentions an old friend Brandon - he now sees that guy almost every week, they go play basketball. Or Rock Band. I'm supposed to go over and be the guitarist one of these times (a night when they for some reason do NOT play basketball!).

I wonder what happened with me and Aaron here. Totally don't remember.

Oh, Jenny likes to play that Rock Band thing too. I fear when I get my new big TV that my niece and nephew will hound me to buy one of those game systems for when they are here. It would just be a waste of money for me, especially since it would be connected up HERE on the small TV anyway.

I don't think so. Mike has been trying unsuccessfully to get me to play the SW games with him for ages now. If the appeal of playing as Anakin and whupping Obi-Wan's ass doesn't lure me in so Anakin can then overthrow Palpatine to be emperor (because that would totally happen in my game...if that is even possible!) then I doubt I've got much interest in it.

Huh...I wonder if I can work up long compound sentences like that one for the 1 sentence challenge????

Yes that can happen in the RotS game! It's the alternate ending, when you beat the game as Anakin. It's awesome. (even *I* think so, in spite of my inner Palpatine cringing at it!)

I keep looking at the 1 sentence thing and wishing someone else would post one so I'd have a better feel for how to do it. Hee. I guess we should just dive in and do it however we want! But yes I think making long run-on rambly sentences is part of the fun of it!

Oh, you can do that in that game??? Hmmm...that does fractionally increase the appeal to me.

Yeah, and they said you could switch out the prompts for the alternate prompts provided and rearrange them too, so really it's not very restrictive. I need to work on mine too.

You'd have to go through a lot to get to that point, though. I could probably find that ending on youtube if you want to see it!

Yours is A/O, right? So I can't read it anyway :( Booooo. I'm a bad friend. You always read my stuff!

Ohhhhh right, someone else claimed A/O, right?
I suppose if you throw in a few A/O sentences, the damage to my psyche wouldn't be too extensive if I read them.
