Yes I do love the 90s
Jan. 24th, 2005 12:56 pmI've been sucked into watching Part Deux on VH1 - awesome! I've seen '91 - '95. Can't believe 1995 was 10 years ago but watching that, it does feel like it. I was such a different person back then. Sometimes I really miss that girl.
If I had to pick a year that was the best of my life I would say 1992. Oh to be that young and innocent again! Late 1991 was when I really started coming out of the shell of painful shyness. (We're talking psychotic, hiding-under-the-desk-at-school shyness here) Hearing the music and seeing the fads from this time period made me really nostalgic this weekend, and it's carried over to today.
I've been having dreams about my exes too. Nothing like getting back together with them or still being in love with them or anything like SOME people dream about - just weird stuff. In one dream the guy was a porno producer. I can't see him doing that in real life so I don't know where that came from. Did you know "porno season" is October - December? I didn't either, until I learned it in my dream :)
Looking back at the 90s, I wasn't comfortable being myself. But why not? Back then it was perfectly acceptable to be psycho - I was a teenager/20-something. And now, I'm still not comfortable in my skin, but I've crossed that big THREE-OH line and it seems like I should have everything figured out by now. Depressing.

Date: 2005-01-27 06:46 am (UTC)Neuro Cleo
Date: 2005-01-26 01:15 am (UTC)I still love that first Letters to Cleo album, Aurora Gory Alice, the one I basically stole from you - ha! Their subsequent efforts never came close to that one.
One more note: every time you say "psychotic" you know I'm thinking "No, Stad, it's neurotic." Psychotic may sound cooler to you cuz it's more extreme, but you know the correct word is neurotic. If I were to form a band, which would be if I had somehow miraculously been given musical talent all of a sudden, then I would want to name it "The Neurotics." But that's got to be a real band already. There's no way the whole music industry coulda passed up such a cool name. It's prob'ly some cool alt-band.

Date: 2005-01-27 06:40 am (UTC)I'm sending you an email soon, by the way. To reply to your note, even though that breaks my law of "return something with a like thing" (phone call w/phone call, email w/email)
So when are we going to start our band? Me on piano and you on guitar....
We coulda been Coldplay!
Date: 2005-01-28 06:05 am (UTC)I will never forget the most interesting thing I learned from my high school Psych class - the fact that psychotic behavior and neurotic behavior are two separate paths. That's what studies have shown. So while the uneducated may worry about neurotic people eventually "snapping" and going crazy with full-on psychotic behavior, the truth is, that doesn't happen. If you're prone to one type of behavior, you're not prone to the other one.
Of course, that's from my senior year in high school, so who knows what new studies may have shown, but it makes sense to me.

(BTW, I've been doing a lot of Stripe-posting lately, so be sure to read! I'm HAPPY!)

Date: 2008-07-13 12:18 am (UTC)Does this rule still apply?? If I leave you a voice mail this weekend while you are up in the mountains and may not have a signal, would you call me when you got home??
**contemplates testing theory!**

Date: 2008-07-16 12:18 am (UTC)It kinda sorta applies, but if I catch someone on AIM that's the equivalent of a phone call to me!!!

Date: 2008-07-16 01:51 am (UTC)It's like comparing apples to oranges. A phone call is verbal; AIM is written. If I send you an EMAIL and you respond via AIM, that I can understand, but not AIM in exchange for a phone call!!!!

Date: 2008-07-16 03:20 am (UTC)But AIM is a more "live" way to chat than email. It's more back-and-forth, give-and-take. AIM can TOTALLY count as a phone call!
