I've been sucked into watching Part Deux on VH1 - awesome! I've seen '91 - '95. Can't believe 1995 was 10 years ago but watching that, it does feel like it. I was such a different person back then. Sometimes I really miss that girl.

If I had to pick a year that was the best of my life I would say 1992. Oh to be that young and innocent again! Late 1991 was when I really started coming out of the shell of painful shyness. (We're talking psychotic, hiding-under-the-desk-at-school shyness here) Hearing the music and seeing the fads from this time period made me really nostalgic this weekend, and it's carried over to today.

I've been having dreams about my exes too. Nothing like getting back together with them or still being in love with them or anything like SOME people dream about - just weird stuff. In one dream the guy was a porno producer. I can't see him doing that in real life so I don't know where that came from. Did you know "porno season" is October - December? I didn't either, until I learned it in my dream :)

Looking back at the 90s, I wasn't comfortable being myself. But why not? Back then it was perfectly acceptable to be psycho - I was a teenager/20-something. And now, I'm still not comfortable in my skin, but I've crossed that big THREE-OH line and it seems like I should have everything figured out by now. Depressing.

Pretty soon, we'll be sitting in our rockers out on the porch, knitting baby blankets for other people's grandchildren... okay, wait, I don't have a rocker or a porch (back patio, though?) and I don't know how to knit. Still, we're old

People are forgetting the cool 90's bands, or they're not old enough to have noticed them back then. Today at work, I kinda joked to a supervisor about Letters to Cleo, and he gave no reaction. I assumed he would remember them or have heard of them, but apparently not. I don't even know this guy, but he has long hair, so I assumed he's prob'ly a music buff, but of course, that's stereotyping, so who knows.

I still love that first Letters to Cleo album, Aurora Gory Alice, the one I basically stole from you - ha! Their subsequent efforts never came close to that one.

One more note: every time you say "psychotic" you know I'm thinking "No, Stad, it's neurotic." Psychotic may sound cooler to you cuz it's more extreme, but you know the correct word is neurotic. If I were to form a band, which would be if I had somehow miraculously been given musical talent all of a sudden, then I would want to name it "The Neurotics." But that's got to be a real band already. There's no way the whole music industry coulda passed up such a cool name. It's prob'ly some cool alt-band.

Why can't it be psychotic?????? What's wrong with psychotic???? You'll have to explain that one to me, because I love calling myself psychotic. Neurotic doesn't sound as.... psycho.

I'm sending you an email soon, by the way. To reply to your note, even though that breaks my law of "return something with a like thing" (phone call w/phone call, email w/email)

So when are we going to start our band? Me on piano and you on guitar....

We coulda been Coldplay!

Exactly, you like saying "psychotic" cuz it's more extreme. I'm too lazy to look up the definitions for ya, but in a nutshell, you and I engage in neurotic behavior, the OCD, shyness stuff. Monk-like stuff. Whereas psychotic behavior is that of serial killers and all. So the difference is, "psychotic" implies feelings of ill will toward others, so you know that's not an accurate description of your behavior.

I will never forget the most interesting thing I learned from my high school Psych class - the fact that psychotic behavior and neurotic behavior are two separate paths. That's what studies have shown. So while the uneducated may worry about neurotic people eventually "snapping" and going crazy with full-on psychotic behavior, the truth is, that doesn't happen. If you're prone to one type of behavior, you're not prone to the other one.

Of course, that's from my senior year in high school, so who knows what new studies may have shown, but it makes sense to me.

(BTW, I've been doing a lot of Stripe-posting lately, so be sure to read! I'm HAPPY!)

Does this rule still apply?? If I leave you a voice mail this weekend while you are up in the mountains and may not have a signal, would you call me when you got home??

You didn't do it, though. Ha!
It kinda sorta applies, but if I catch someone on AIM that's the equivalent of a phone call to me!!!

AIM does NOT equal a phone call anymore than 50 degrees equals FREEZING.

It's like comparing apples to oranges. A phone call is verbal; AIM is written. If I send you an EMAIL and you respond via AIM, that I can understand, but not AIM in exchange for a phone call!!!!

50 degrees is indeed freezing! BRRRRR!

But AIM is a more "live" way to chat than email. It's more back-and-forth, give-and-take. AIM can TOTALLY count as a phone call!

From: [identity profile] gizzi1213.livejournal.com
No, it can't because on AIM you still have to rely on the WRITTEN word to convey your intent, whereas with a phone call it's verbal.

Yeah, but it's easier to understand written words than verbal. So AIM is better.

Though I don't think that's what we were talking about in this thread. lol

You think it's easier to understand the written word? But how often are you left confused by what someone posts online because you can't "hear" the tone?? You don't have that problem with the written word.

Well, using smileys helps. Hee. A gifted-enough writer can convey the tone through the writing!

Also, since I know you, if you were to tell me to fuck off, I wouldn't be like O_O the way I would if some anonymous shmo told me to.
