Don't have much to say, just wanted to say hello as it's been a few days.... for the next 2 months, my Avon-busy-time and my work-busy-time fall on the same few days (every other week). I spend a few days after that playing catchup with stuff at home and with my pillow as well. Slept a heavenly 9 hours last night.... had weird dreams and all.... woke up today thinking it was Saturday and why the heck was my alarm going off? Ha! It's not even Friday yet. Bummer.

Tonight I'll be going to a friend's house to deliver my last Avon order and perhaps have dinner with her. That will be fun after the stressful day I've had here at work (paycheck mayhem - but it's all good now). She hinted that Jack in the Crack would be good, she's on a diet that's very restricting but she could eat a chicken caesar salad.... I'm on a diet as well but not for medical reasons like she is, and I can't seem to go to JITB without ordering an Ultimate cheeseburger. I suppose it would be rude to eat that in front of her though. Ah, Wendy, just stick to her diet!

Stad - I know you read this faithfully - I haven't checked the NPMB lately but will soon, maybe tomorrow or some time this weekend. Hope all is well with you.

I'm going to shut up now, this seems to be rather a pointless post....
By the way, I'm jealous of all you peeps who have those cute little animated icons, I wonder how the heck you got those???? (hint hint)

Breaking ER

Eh Stad, I stopped by and checked out both ER's, so thanks for that. I didn't take the time to watch the Alison Lohman movie yet - next time I will.

And I'm quite into your Breaking Benjamin CD now, so thanks for that too. When I first listened to it, I was disappointed, and thought there was too much Nickel-crap type stuff, so I used it to just repeat "So Cold" over and over. But now I see there's plenty more to like. The second track is the throwaway Nickel-crap stuff, but the next one is decent, and the middle tracks are excellent (5-7). You might be hearing "Sooner or Later"(track 7) on 98 right now - that's a good one. And track 6 might be my favorite, as it's what I call their Coldplay song. I like to repeat 5-7 for an hour or so sometimes.

(you haven't checked the NPMB lately? Shame on you! Nothing major has happened lately, but I've still been giving quite a few updates. I'm happy right now.)

Ah! I THOUGHT I heard the TV on but when I got up I found no evidence of you having been there. No note with hilarious little comments about the "bear duder" (I forgot to mention how funny those were!)

But I lined up the two ERs figuring you'd watch them both at once.

When you say "Nickel-crap" are you referring to Nickelback? I like Nickelback!!!! You're mean. You just wish you could be as talented as they are. The green-eyed monster rears it's ugly head. Heh. And yes I just heard "Sooner or Later" on the radio this morning.

Maybe I'll check out the board for lunch today....

Nickel-crap vs. Chevelle-ish

From: (Anonymous)
Yeah, you know what Nickel-crap is. Just mainstream nothing rock. It doesn't stand out, it's just kinda there. And you can't possibly like that horrible song of theirs where he's singing about how he likes her pants below her knees, or some stupid crap like that. That's one of the worst songs ever created in the history of the creation of songs.

There are plenty of other much more interesting bands to check out than them. I may have to get Strata, Future Leaders of the World (quite Kurt sounding with the vocals on that "Let Me Out" song), Submersed (isn't "Hollow" a great song?), and DEFINITELY Mars Volta. Have you heard "The Widow" yet? I'm shocked to be hearing it on 98, cuz I figured the Edge would be the only ones playing it, so that's cool.

I listen to 98 a lot at work, cuz it's great to get going with rock. I would listen to the Edge, but you need a mega strong radio to get proper reception indoors, cuz they still suck that way. And I like having my CD radio to be able to switch around with the radio a bit and listen to about one CD in two hours if I'm hearing plenty of good radio stuff. The Zone is okay, I check them out second, cuz they'll play a bit of the punky-pop bands that 98 won't. 98 will play the more hardcore rock like Slip-knot and Korn, the Edge is great for my punk-pop cravings (do you like any of those songs, stuff by The Used, My Chemical Romance, Yellowcard, Sum41, etc.?), and the Zone is a blend of the two, so it's not as good cuz they end up overplaying the main songs too much, along with too much of the 90's grunge rock that I love, but I've heard a million times. I have those CD's, so I don't need to hear that old stuff so much - when I listen to the radio I want new stuff.

So back to Nickel-crap for a sec: if a rockband that gets played on 98 basically sucks, it's Nickel-crap, but if they're cool, then I think of them as Chevelle-ish. (Strata's latest song is definitely Chevelle-ish!) Cuz those past two (maybe their only two) CDs of theirs are fabulous top to bottom, and they haven't left my CD case in months. The Breaking Benjamin disc has enough Chevelle quality stuff on it to be a worthwhile purchase for sure. It's too bad they didn't put it out with that great acoustic version of "So Cold" but that's a 98 exclusive from their own recording in the 98 studio I think.

End of musical rant now.

Um.... I do like that pants-around-your-neck song or whatever. Heh. Well, I guess now I know why I never get that CD for Christmas/birthdays - the parentals seem to still be afraid of buying the wrong one or something, they seem to leave that territory to us young whipper-snappers.... but, really, I'm not dying for it or anything, so maybe I'll just let it fade away and keep hearing them on the radio forever and ever (amen).

I haven't heard of most of those bands/songs you mentioned, but I know that "Let me Out" song - yes, Kurt-sounding, which automatically makes it cool. Thanks for reminding me, gotta ask for that new Nirvana set now, and lookie, it's only been 2 months! Not a year! Are you proud?

I keep thinking about getting an iPod now. Was talking to one of my gay boyfriends (the young one) about it the other night, he just got one and when I said I was kind of scared of them, he said "me too! But it's so awesome!" and he went on about how his boyfriend set it up for him and he loves it now, he likes to shuffle.... I would like that too, and it would be better than the 5-CD shuffling I do at home (which I don't even bother with much anymore, though? Always have the TV on as background noise) cuz every song I have on my playlist would be kick-ass, not just nothing throw-away songs from the CDs.... and just the sheer amount of songs you'd have instant access to is amazing. Maybe this would motivate me to go walking or something. I have to work out more! The thighs are still flabby and begging to be exercised.

Well, those are expensive enough for me to put off purchasing for now, but it's fun to think about them and look at the ads in the paper and eventually I'll probably just rush out and get one impulsively - like with the Gameboy. I haven't played that thing in a whole WEEK (as of tomorrow it will be a week, I mean), I've been so good. And I got all the way up to Jan. 18 on my email-responding, woohoo! Would have gone further but hotmail is being lame right now.

Whoa, look at this long response, cool, keep the thread alive!

Ipods

Just a quick note, that if you're serious about getting an Ipod, then it would be silly to bother getting CD's of stuff I already have, like the expensive Nirvana box set. Since you can just borrow mine and download them to your pod, but whatever. M and L raided my room one day to borrow from my collection when they got their pod.

That's true - I just talked to my boss (a computer geek) about it for a few minutes. His answers to my questions were encouraging.

Hmmmmm, maybe I should just not do a list and say, "GIMME MONEY I CAN PUT TOWARDS AN IPOD!!!"

And then, when you finally get one in 2010, you can do the same thing with all my CDs that you like to borrow every so often (see, you say I am behind the times with music, but who got a CD player first! Uh-huh, that would be me - and while I'm on that for a sec... Aaron actually got a dvd player!!!! He doesn't even care about dvds so I'm surprised, but he got it with points from something, or some weird thing like that - he got it for next to nothing)

The Killers kill

Just had to say that you're missing out if you don't know those bands I mentioned. You've prob'ly heard some of the 98 ones, and don't realize it, but you should check out the Edge in your car for the others. Even the Zone plays some of them - I didn't even mention the Killers. You MUST like them, they're totally hot right now and they're totally cool. Their sound mixes rock with punk-pop with 80's synths and stuff. It's fabulous! They're my next CD purchase, for sure. And yes, that'll be before my B-day, cuz some of us like to get new music a bit more often than twice a year.

Have you even heard Sum41's "Pieces" either? I bet you'd like that one. Their album has stayed in my CD-case since Xmas, cuz it's top quality stuff. I was glad to see that it wasn't just the radio songs I liked, cuz I wasn't sure about them since their previous stuff was not my style (they did that "Fat Lip" song a couple years back).

Nope, don't know any of that... though I could swear I heard a girl at work talking about the Killers? She was talking to my boss about "new age" stuff but it's "edgier" - so that sounds like it would fit... I know she mentioned a band called something Mouse... Modest Mouse? Something like that. I heard Bossman reply that he would check it out on iTunes (made me want an iPod again - sigh - but I can wait on this, I'm sure. I'll still only ask for CDs that you don't have, just to avoid waste for the hopefully-near-future)

I buy music once in a while, silly Stad - I just prefer to let you all buy it for me when possible. After the birthdays are done I will buy stuff rather than wait 'til Christmas, just not as much as YOU buy, cuz I'm busy buying Avon and cat stuff and new clothes! You know, IMPORTANT stuff. Heh. Actually if you read my 2/17 post... I shouldn't be spending money on anything, really.... but the cat bills can come out of savings, and after a while I'll forget I ever had it.... hmmmm, maybe I should leave that on a credit card bill so I DON'T think I'm "richer" than I am and keep spending? But nah, the interest is suuuuuuuch a waste of money.

Sorry, just thinking out loud, I'm going to bed now... ER is taping, in case you forgot! (for me too - I like to watch it on Fridays after work when I'm more awake than now - how do people stay alert until 10pm???? God I'm old)

Holy reply through this, Batman.

The Killers do "Somebody Told Me," which is that great song where he's singing about "somebody told me that you had a boyfriend, who looked like a girlfriend, that I had ...etc." some cool fun lyrics. You must've heard that song at some point, unless you only listen to 98 for rock, cuz they refuse to play any of the new punky-pop bands, so they suck in that way. But that song has been played and played for over half a year on the Zone and the Edge, cuz it rules. Their next single is good too, that one is "Mr. Brightside." And I've only heard the third single a few times - it sounded good, but I don't know if they're gonna be playing it much, cuz I'm still hearing the first two more. I'll get the album anyway.

Yes, Modest Mouse is that band. They're just okay for me, nothing that turns me on. I've heard their radio songs over and over as well - they do that "Float On" song. They're a good respectable band, just not my particular fancy.

Now what was really funny to me in the music world today was the irony of my Garbage connection. I haven't listened to their CD's in awhile, but I got in the mood again and just put the first and third in my case yesterday, and listened to them both. Then today, I listened to the first one again (was feeling like hearing "Milk" and "Stroke of Luck") and today was when I first had the thought of "Y'know, they haven't put out a new record in awhile now, so I'm hoping they're okay and all. It'd be nice to hear more from them. Hopefully they didn't break up or anything." And lo and behold, driving home in the ridiculous rain tonight, I heard their new song "Why Do You Love Me" on the Zone, and the DJ said their new album should come out in early April. Just thought that was hella-ironic to hear that on the same day as my thought, so that's a major connection to some kind of spiritual life-force or something. And I figured you'd like to know the info anyway.

-Stad
(Yes, I need to check out your ER again - this time it wasn't cuz of forgetting or anything. My Suns were on at the same time, so they won the VCR battle, cuz it's the Mavs they're facing, and I knew you'd have it anyway. And BTW, Cox cable sucks now. Those bastards took HBO off the regular 100 channels, so now there's no point to having a frickin box in my room, cuz there's nothing to unscramble there. So no HBO in my room right now - this sucks.)

Keepin' the thread alive!
I know that boyfriend/girlfriend song, vaguely...

Thanks for the Garbage update, I too have wondered when the hell they're coming out with new stuff.

I just sent you my b-day list - I actually already thought of something I forgot (I barely sent it out like 10 minutes ago) - I didn't put any Gameboy Advance games on there. All I have are Ms.Pacman (with 3 other old games on it), Tetris, and Zelda (the first one, the BEST one). I want the Spongebob game, and if you know of any other games I would like that's cool - oh yeah, like The Sims. I don't know if they have any of the older versions on Gameboy?

Look at me, writing this like it's an email. No one will read down this far anyway so no biggie.

I was sooooo tempted to go get an ipod this weekend but I restrained myself. Now that I've sent out my list I feel I can't (even though it's not on it, too expensive.... I mentioned it on there)

Come see ER whenever!

Well done.

Good job, Stad, I was beginning to wonder if you were going to fail me here. My last response had brought the number of notes to 9, so I thought "Wow, that'll be cool if we can get to double digits!" But you weren't responding for a few days, and I was gonna artificially jack it up to 10 myself, but no, you finally came through with another note - kudos to us for double digitizing!

I still need to respond to your long e-mail - I will, but I'm a bit selfish right now. I'm off to go give a great little Stripes update, so be sure to check that out!

Gah. I gave up reading all the responses here. One, I LIKE Nickleback and wanted to backhand your brother every time he called them Nickle-crap. Two, I have NEVER heard of any of those bands you were discussing...YEARS later!
