Tired of seeing/hearing spoilers, I read 350 pages last night and FINISHED Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince. I am now going to attempt to do my first ever LJ Cut so no one else accidentally sees anything thanks to my big mouth!
OMG I can't even believe I read so much in one sitting, first of all. It's not my way. I like to spread things out. But I didn't want the entire thing ruined. When Book 7 comes out, I will drop everything and read it on the first weekend like all the other diehards.
I first cried when Dumbledore got all misty-eyed, when Harry told him about declaring himself "Dumbledore's man" - awwwwwwwww. And then I LOVED how Harry tells his buds he'll be safe, he'll be with Dumbledore..... but when they come back it's Dumbledore assuring HARRY that everything's alright because "I'm with you" - awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! That's when it first seeps into Harry's brain, that he has everything he needs to carry on alone. I guess I should have seen D's death coming even without the spoiler, but I didn't want to believe it, like the other students I just couldn't imagine a Hogwarts without him, he was invincible.... I don't know how they're going to make this into a movie for little kiddies, the ending is so wonderfully dark. (I love the Dark Side, even though it makes me cry.... BECAUSE it makes me cry)
I wonder what the heck is up with Snape. I know he's not the evil man he appears to be, but I was thinking there would be some explanation at the end of this book and there wasn't. Major set-up for Book 7.
So I finished reading it at 11:30pm, then of course I couldn't fall asleep for another hour (am TIRED today) - I was thinking about the story and crying and trying NOT to think about it, but still crying.... it was awesome. C will be happy, now she has someone she can discuss the book with, she had kept yelling at me for watching Star Wars when I could have been reading. Ha! And now I can go back and look at
alwaysthequiet1 's Harry Potter comments, and the HP community I joined (though it's nowhere near as active as DMA! DMA rocks!) I want to re-read all 6 books, have to get Book 1 back from a friend who borrowed it over a year ago and still hasn't read it.

Date: 2005-08-02 01:29 pm (UTC)Actually, Harry doesn't have everything he needs, he's just lost his last crutch. Harry doesn't know what the other horcruxes are or how to find them. Kinda sucks.
We Snape fans believe that when Snape and Dumbles looked at each other on the tower that they were having a telepathic conversation, or at least Dumbles was telling Snape to kill him.

Date: 2005-08-02 02:01 pm (UTC)A girl here at work is convinced Snape is evil. I tried to reason with her.... that would be too obvious. There's a REASON Dumbledore trusted him. And not just cuz he's a "trusting old fool."
I think Snape didn't really kill Dumbledore - or, maybe he dealt the final blow, but he was already near death from that potion (to which he probably knew there was no antidote) and Snape needed to keep up appearances so he could continue as double agent. It's the only thing that makes sense, isn't it? I wish Rowling had tied everything together with a pretty little bow at the end.... but I will have to be patient and wait for Book 7 with the rest of the world.

Date: 2005-08-03 08:12 am (UTC)Another friend I've chatted with wonders why Snape didn't take Harry to Voldemort while he was down, while he had the chance.... like he doesn't really want Harry dead, but why? She doesn't buy the double agent stuff. I still think that's the best explanation though.
