Title: "Certainty"
Fandom: Star Wars
Characters: Leia, Bail
Prompt:
sunnyskywalker's request: pre-ANH Leia + deception.
Word Count: 323
Rating: G
Summary: Leia leaves Bail to go on an important mission.
Author's Notes: Hiatus drabble #6.
It was the last time she would ever see him. And she knew it.
Princess Leia Organa hugged her father in farewell, lingering in his arms as long as he would allow. Bail inevitably pulled back and squared his hands on her shoulders, searching her serious brown eyes with his own.
"You'll do fine," he assured her with all the confidence of a proud father.
Leia forced a smile. She couldn't explain how she sometimes just knew things. She had learned long ago that it was a touchy subject with him; he would simply tell her to trust her instincts and leave it at that.
"Is something else troubling you?" Bail inquired. He knew her so well.
Leia shook her head and looked out at the Alderaanian pine that graced their palace gardens. A chill came over her as she suddenly realized a horrible truth: she was looking at these beautiful surroundings for the last time.
That could only mean that something was about to happen to her, not him. Strangely enough, that realization gave her some comfort.
She had to go on this mission. The princess was not one to shy away from danger... but even more powerful than the sense of impending doom was her certainty that this trip she was about to take was absolutely crucial to the survival of the Rebellion. If she told her father the truth, he would prevent her from going. No, she couldn't tell him.
"The Tantive IV is ready, your highness," interrupted an oblivious aide, sparing her any further discussion of her feelings.
Leia nodded to him curtly, then kissed Bail's cheek. "I love you," she whispered as she backed away from him.
"I love you, too," Bail replied, smiling at her so adoringly that Leia thought her heart might snap in two. "See you soon."
She desperately wanted to believe that she would see him again.
Maybe her intuition was wrong this time.

This made me wonder what she would have done if she had known the price of this mission's success.
