I'm still alive :) *cough cough hack hack* And still very busy. I haven't read my f-list properly since Monday but I hope to be caught up on that by tomorrow, so don't feel ignored, f-list!

This week I got lovely cards from:
[livejournal.com profile] nelliedrum
[livejournal.com profile] edenmalfoy
[livejournal.com profile] bitter_moss
[livejournal.com profile] elledwen
(and last week, [livejournal.com profile] meli_in_sac, whom I never properly thanked in a post! And [livejournal.com profile] snowflakie06 I believe I may not have thanked either?) oops, nope on that last one!
I hope I didn't forget anyone.

Thank you all! It's so nice getting cards in the mail instead of just bills!

I can't believe Christmas is 4 days away and I still don't even know if I'm done shopping yet. Stupid flu/cold/whatever thingie. *cough cough hack hack sneeze*

Hope you feel better soon! Drink plenty of lemon and honey in hot water, eat lotsa garlic and next time you feel a cold/flu/cough coming on, load up on echinacea. It works best in stopping said problems before they take hold, but I believe it will still speed up the healing process even if you are ill. Making sure you eat your (preferably fresh and in-season) fruit and veggies and taking a multi-vitamin should help too :). But I'll stop giving un-asked for advice now ;).

Yeah, I totally don't do ANY of that right there. I really should. But I've taken worse care of myself before and still not gotten so sick. Who knows. It's hard to eat fresh veggies when you don't cook, but I can eat more fruit. New year's resolution! And I have multivitamins but they're too big for me to swallow :( I have a pill-splitter too but that makes them taste more gross. Blech.

I do think it's partly about attitude too, sometimes the fact a person isn't eating well is about the fact they are not caring for themselves - and that's want triggers getting ill. Nirvana kinda lives off ramen noodles, horribly processed cereal and potatoes. And she's never ill. But she also doesn't sweat the small stuff, sleeps a lot and doesn't blame herself for things (I notice that neurotic guilty types like me get sick more often :P. Not that I'm saying you're like me in that respect!). Stress also increases your need for nutrients, especially vitamin C and all the B's.

Like you say, it's easy enough to eat fresh fruit, and fruit salad with yogurt is pretty yummy (and easy enough to make a big bowl of and stick in the fridge for mornings). Poaching fruit in water with sugar and cinnamon is pretty yummy too for winter. If you don't cook you could still make sure your take-out has veggies, like a good Thai veggie+tofu or cashew nut curry, sushi or a yummy veggie pizza. And in summer fresh crudites with dip is a pretty easy and tasty meal to throw together :).

But yeah, I kinda have this nurturing need to feed people. I have joked around that I should offer a counseling+vegan food+conservation info+massage service :P. 'cos those are kinda my skills! If only :).

And I take chewable multivitamins myself 'cos I have SUPER-SIZED tonsils :P. I'm sure there are some in liquid or powered form too (like spirilina which you can add to smoothies or juice.)

You should be a nutritionist of some kind :)

I don't like veggies enough to eat them on pizza. I like broccoli, corn, carrots, and not much else. Oh, spinach is good too.

That icon always makes me want a strawberry.

But nutritionists have to study maths! *ug*. I do know a lot about nutrition though and enjoy talking to people about it. I plan to study naturopathy one day, and nutrition is part of the course (as is counseling and I could do massage as well. All i'd have to do is place some environmental books and vegan muffins in the reception area and I'm set :D). Until then I'll settle for making my friends treats and throwing dinner parties :). Oh, and maybe owning my own vegetarian food co-op or cafe one day. It could happen!

I never used to like veggies until i became a vegetarian - things like veggie curry and lasagna made me appreciate how yummy veggies can be. And unless I hate a vegetable I hardly notice it under a rich creamy sauce :). From the veggies you said you like, you have the makings of a salad at least :). With a tasty dressing and some organic meat or a form of veggie protein like a curried lentil patty, you'd have a nice meal :).

Lol me too, I have no strawberries - and I ate the last of my cherries - wah! Might have to go have a plum :). And take my own advice - i don;t eat enough fruit and veggies myself :P.

I just drank cranberry grape Minute Maid, does that count? Do you guys have Minute Maid down there?

I'm starting to get my appetite back finally. It disappeared for a while. And I happen to have a fridge full of gourmet food that's probably going bad now. *sigh*

We don't have minute maid here. Though we do have 'meter maids' which are skinny, usually blonde and tanned girls who walks around in small gold bikinis putting change into parking meters on the Gold Coast. Such a wonderful way to showcase Australia to the tourists :/. FYI the Gold Coast is a horrible touristy place just south of Brisbane, lots of beaches, kitshy tourist attractions, warm weather, scarily tanned white-teethed locals. Vapid is a good discriptive word to use here :). It does have lovely hinterland though. Is meter maid some kind of fizzy juice drink?

It's pretty common to loose your appetite when you're going through a lot, but making sure you at least have a few healthy snacks every day is important. What gourment food do you have in your fridge?

Lol. I is tired so I mad a funny mistake. I think the whole fizzy metaphor probably works for both minute and meter maids though :P.

Ha ha - cute. Minute Maid isn't fizzy. But I'm sure it's very loaded up with sugars (because I like it a lot). Awww, look at the cute little Kat typos. *pets them all*

The food is stuff from right after Aaron's mom died. They brought it down here and left it for us but there was soooo much, and Aaron's worse about eating leftovers than I am. Little sandwiches and crepes and things. I gave the shrimp and sushi to my brother. I don't THINK I like sushi... I do like shrimp but knew he'd enjoy it more, esp. when I had oodles of other stuff to eat. Oh and there's some kind of artichoke dip I'm afraid to try cuz I don't think I like them either... maybe in a dip they'd be okay though.

Yeah, I pretty much only like corn, carrots, and cucumbers (plus lettuce, but that hardly counts). And I hatehatehate cooked vegetables (except for corn, obviously). *is the pickiest person ever*

Broccoli smells funny. :P

Oh, and I like celery, though generally when accompanied by peanut butter or ranch dressing (I'll also eat it in soup).

You'd better! My meme entries feel so neglected.

I was surprised to learn that lettuce is actually quite nutritious - it has iron in it among other things. Though generally the whole darker or brightly coloured fruit and veggies are the most nutrient dense. To barge on in am comment away :).

Date: 2006-12-21 03:22 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sanestlunatic.livejournal.com
Huh. I was always told that lettuce basically didn't have any nutritional value because it's mostly water. Though that was referring to the iceberg variety - I usually eat Romaine, which is darker and therefore more nutritious.

Weee that took less time than I thought. I only put them out on Tuesday of last week. And woooo! I found gingerbread men cookie cutters FINALLY (my last post said I still couldn't find them and I was going to use Winnie the Pooh ones). Anyway, I got shoes...and a dress today and a cookie cutter. Heee! *is really a spoiled brat*
