I think this is the third year now that we don't get today off. And I'm still bitter, dangit! Let the slacking commence! I mean, really, I need today off so I can sit at home reflecting on the great presidents of this country. That's totally what I would be doing if I had today off.

Soooooo I finally watched Two Brothers last night. I'd been afraid to due to some things I'd heard, and definitely some of it was hard for me to watch, but it was a good movie.

And now the outdoor kitties have names!
the whiny one = Kumal
the friendly one (though in fact the other one is friendly too) = Sangha
They're two tiger brothers just like the movie! Only... okay, yeah, they're tabbies, not Big Cats.

They're still not my kitties, but I thought they deserved names after all this time. Both of them will sit in my lap now, for a bit. Isn't that sweet?

I did one of those friending memes a few days ago... and it didn't net me a single friend. That's a first. Loser alert! *le sigh* Nevermind that I didn't go ask anyone else to add me. ETA: Yaaaay I made a friend! W00t!

I'm on song #1104 of shuffling on my iPod. There are only 1275 songs on here so obviously I have to keep shuffling until it finishes. Anyone else shuffle theirs and find themselves going "Oh cool good song"...even though you programmed all the songs on there so DUH it's a good song? Heh. I have some songs on mine that I don't really know, though, because I put them on there based on my bro's recommendations. I usually end up liking those, though.

Okay, I'm gonna post this and go slack by other means.

I really shouldn't whine because I do get the major holidays off, huh.

It WOULD be nice not having weekend crowds when you're running errands. Though sometimes I do stuff after work for that reason and that works well too.

Honestly, I wouldn't bitch about it if we didn't used to get this day off. We work three more days a year now than we used to. And I should be over it by now but I find it so annoying.

I do enjoy celebrating the major holidays with my family, but if we were open and people needed to work on say, Christmas, I think I'd volunteer so the people with kids could take off. As long as I get as many days off as they do, switching the days wouldn't be that big a deal. Which I guess is why my brother doesn't ask for holidays off.

Your family can bite your shiny metal ass!

Right... they aren't your kitties because obviously, all kitties on the street have names and sits on peole's laps.

No, I'm used to whining by now. Blame the kiddies fo that.

You named them and fed them and gave them a place to sleep. That is better than some other pets get.

Date: 2008-02-18 10:12 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lumy12.livejournal.com
That's true. But I haven't taken them to the torture chamber vet - I'm not responsible for their medical care, so I'm not their owner. I know there's at least one other person who feeds them too. At least she used to feed them. Who knows if she still does. Four cats is plenty for me kthxbai!

Heh. Just to kick my own ass even more... I could go back and find the entry where I claimed they weren't mine because I hadn't named them. >.> That's when they were kittens #1, 2, and 3. #3 disappeared months ago :(

Anyway, I changed my mind. Naming them does not mean they're mine. And we all know it's a woman's prerogative to change her mind!

Date: 2008-02-18 10:28 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] darkp-hawk.livejournal.com
>.> Fine, we will assume that naming them does not mean they're yours. I'll accept the woman's prerogative only because I have a long list of female friends and that is a scary group to upset by not allowing that.

Smart man!

Like the computer guy here who went around Valentine's morning and left a red tulip on every woman's desk. That was very smart of him. (this office is like 85% female.) We were all nice to him the rest of the day! And even the day after!

Date: 2008-02-18 10:45 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] darkp-hawk.livejournal.com
I'm glad you accept my reasoning. So the formal definition of 'your cats' is when you pay for their medical care?

Date: 2008-02-18 10:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lumy12.livejournal.com
In this case, yes.

You can save this to throw it in my face later if I object >.>

Hehe, why not commiserate with us Canadians? If we asked to have the day off our bosses would all just look at us and start laughing. XD Although in Ontario today it is supposedly "family day" which is an official statutory holiday the premier instituted so he would get re-elected people could have a holiday in February. Trouble is he forgot to tell the federal government, so anything that is federally-funded or operated continues to function.

So does the newspaper where I work, since the news business never sleeps. I was at work this morning, quite grudgingly too. Heh.

And I do that exact same thing with my iPod. XD I thought I was the only one!

You guys have your own holidays though so you can point and laugh when you're off and we're not. Heheh. Family day? So if you don't have any family you have to work? *snicker*

Hehehe, yeah it's not like it's the radio and the songs are actually random enough that you might not like something.

Hmmm, comment notifications seem to be going wonky again. *le sigh*

Those are pretty cool names for cats!

Shanghai is a great name for a cat. Did you know its also the name of a city in, uh, southern Italy or Belgium or...Spain, I think? And its also the name of a card game that I have never lost at, except when other people at the table are in the same family and obviously cheat.

And Kamala is a terrific name, too. He was a wrestler during the 1980s and 1990s, mostly in the WWF. He was a big fat dude with a painted sun and moon on his belly, and spoke no English. Just like the whiny cat!

From: [identity profile] lumy12.livejournal.com
Wtf, gmail notifies me of this comment, but not others. You must be SPESHUL.

Actually, yes, you are, because you obviously can't READ. And we both know who cheats at games around here, Mr. Hidden Scrabble Tiles!

Karmala is a mark (Avon) fragrance. That's closer to that wrestler dude than Kumal!

Freddie Highmore grew up when I wasn't looking! Not that that has anything to do with anything.

P.S. You should go look at the people who did the 80s meme and give them your version of who Bill Buckner is. :P

They're your cats, give it up. Let them in. Love them.

They're so ALOOOOOOONE and COOOOOOOLD outside without love. No one else is ever going to pick them up and give them love like you will.

Let them in and get the other cats used to them and let Ani slap 'em around some.

Date: 2008-02-19 08:42 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lumy12.livejournal.com
They are noooooooooooooot! They don't even like it inside! They're outdoor kitties!

And I've read about this; if I think "no one else will love them like I do" that gives me Crazy Cat Lady mentality. Which of course I joke about being one but I really do NOT want to have 96 cats living in their filth and all that.

Date: 2008-02-20 03:33 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] darkp-hawk.livejournal.com
They don't have to live in their own filth. You just need to work that much harder to keep it clean!

Date: 2008-02-20 04:08 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lumy12.livejournal.com
Well, I'd hate to think how much litter would cost for 96 cats. That'd be hella expensive keeping it clean as well.

Date: 2008-02-20 04:17 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] darkp-hawk.livejournal.com
True. I didn't say it wouldn't be expensive; I merely said that they didn't need to live in their own filth. If you were that dedicated to the 96 cats, you would pay to keep them happy and healthy.
