I'm "Grandma sitting" right now, then tomorrow morning I'll head up to the mountains and have lunch with my dad. I'll have over 2 whole days up there this time because I took Monday off (but Dad has to leave tomorrow, cuz of Grandma). I'm not at all anxious about taking care of her this time like I was the first time. I'm a pro now! (heh - I only do easy stuff) And whoops, I apparently set up my autoreply email at work to say I'm returning JUNE 15th instead of July. Yeah I wish I could be off for 11 months! I can't figure out how to change it remotely. Bah.
I think I forgot to turn my CD alarm off in my bedroom, too. (Stad, turn it off if you want? Or just let the kitties hear an hour of Star Wars every morning to remind them of me!)
Some generous person over here has unsecured wireless that I've yoinked for the evening. But after tonight I'll be offline for sure 'til Monday night. Yeah yeah, it's not very long, I don't even really have to mention it, cuz it's not like I have regular RP partners anymore... but some of you will miss me commenting on your entries, right? Right! Of course you will! Yes I'll catch up eventually - just won't be as comment-y.
I thought about making a voicepost from the road tomorrow but I'll spare you the babble since I haz hacked interwebz. Is the text babbling any nicer?
I'll not be driving so fast this time. I didn't tell anyone, cuz I was embarrassed, but I feel like 'fessing up now: I got a photo radar ticket in a hick town! Star Valley - who knew they had photo radar up there??? (it's almost one of those blink-and-you-miss-it towns) $187. Damn. At least I was wearing my seatbelt! Anyway, that's the first ticket I've gotten since 2002. Not bad. And it was for 60 in a 45, at a spot where you have to slow down kinda quickly as you go from highway to town. (Yes, Stad, go ahead and laugh at me - I still say photo radar is a good thing and I deserved to pay the fine!)
I'm looking forward to tomorrow. I hope to get lots of stuff done during my solitude. Even if my creative juices end up not flowing as much as I'm hoping, I'll get different stuff done instead - it's all fun stuff. Either way I'll be enjoying the fresh mountain air, the peace and quiet, the utter lack of stress of any kind. Bliss!

Date: 2008-07-12 03:55 am (UTC)Yeah, I know I take the desert beauty for granted, too. And it's shameful that I've only been to the Grand Canyon once, as a little girl. (it's far away, but still. not THAT far)

Date: 2008-07-13 12:43 pm (UTC)I haven't been to the Ren Faire in a few years, I really need to go again this year. We totally enjoyed it. First time I went I went with my friend Sharon. Somewhere in this house I have a picture of Sharon and I in period costume, taken at some photo booth, both of us with our low bodice tops on and boobs hanging out. Sharon was very pleased to actually have cleavage!
The last time we were there, several years ago, we had my nephew's friend, Dalton, with us. Let's just say that Dalton doesn't get to go many places if there is any kind of cost to it. He had a blast because "Aunt Deb Deb" just adopts all my niece's and nephew's friends and spends just about as liberally on them as on the niece and nephew! Anyway, we were barely in the fair and "Maid Marion" came up to our group and asked the boys if they could help her find "Robin Hood," and gave the boys a description. Seems seems this was some little game that was going on that day.
The faire's website says "The New York Renaissance Faire features over 125 performance on 20 stages and over 100 craftspeople set on 65 acres of beautiful Sterling Forest." (A map (http://www.renfair.com/NY/general/mapImage-04.html) of the site is here, if you're interested.) What that translates into the place is HUGE. We spent nearly all day running around after the boys who were busy trying to find Robin Hood because if Robin Hood truly loved Maiden Marion he'd meet her at the Kissing Bridge at 3 pm. Problem was there were SEVERAL actors all dressed in costumes VERY similar to Robin Hood's! You had to find the right one to relay Maid Marion's request. The boys did NOT want to go to any of the shows, go on any of the rides, etc, because Dalton was completely caught up in finding the REAL Robin Hood. We finally did, mission accomplished, right?? WRONG!
Dalton HAD to make sure that Robin Hood met Maid Marion at the Kissing Bridge so we had to LEAVE the jousting tournament, where we had FANTASTIC seats on the hill overlooking the tournament field, because that show overlapped the 3 pm time for the meeting at Kissing Bridge.
When we got to the Kissing Bridge a very anxious Maid Marion was worrying that Robin Hood wouldn't arrive, that he didn't really love her, etc. Dalton kept reassuring her that he did, he'd promised Dalton he'd show up. It was all very cute! Finally, just on the other side of the bridge Robin Hood appeared and the lovers met on the middle of the bridge with an embrace. Next thing I know, Dalton is yelling at Robin Hood that he has to kiss her because it's the Kissing Bridge. Several other people started saying the same thing (I suspect they had also been dragged into this game since there were kids about the same age with them) and Robin Hood and Maid Marion finally kissed (a bit reluctantly it appeared to me!).
But, Dalton was happy, and that's all that mattered. Huh...more than you wanted to know about the ren faire, I'm sure, but there you have it!
