All right, I’ll babble about The Clone Wars a bit. Don’t read this if you don’t want to know ANYthing – I’ll put my general thoughts above the cut so you don’t have to click on it to see that :)
I did enjoy the movie, it was fast-paced and entertaining, and it resembled Star Wars enough to make me excited. Bad dialogue and all! It certainly isn’t going to appeal to everyone. The casual fan probably wouldn’t like it, and I’m sure certain diehard fans wouldn’t either (I won’t even get into the whole PT vs. OT thing… it’s ALL STAR WARS, people! It’s okay to love all of it!) I liked it...I’m still not sold on Ahsoka, though. (Sorry,
jedi_em!) I’m biased, though, due to my roleplaying an original character as Anakin’s padawan, and she’s quite different from Ahsoka!
Yes, Ahsoka is cute and spunky, and not nearly as annoying as she could have been, but I thought she talked back to Anakin way too much. Especially in front of the clone troopers. There’s teenage snark and then there’s just flat out disrespect! I wanted to smack her.
I don’t get the whole age thing either. The whole "you’re too young to be a padawan" – I thought maybe it was because of her size, but then there was the bit about how she feels she has to prove she’s old enough to be a padawan… um, hello, isn’t she supposed to be 14? And aren’t padawans normally chosen from age 10-13 or something like that? I’m not sure of the minimum age but I remember 13 was the oldest, because Obi-Wan was stressing about being shipped off to the AgriCorps for being too old. But I guess that’s EU so it’s not canon? Shame on me for believing in the EU! Heh.
I like that she made some mistakes, she damn well SHOULD, new as she is to battle. But even so, she’s still rather Mary Sue-ish -- saving Anakin’s life a couple times right off the bat just strikes me as too perfect. Couldn't Anakin have saved himself, really? Of course he could, he's TEH GREATEST JEDI EVAR.
I felt like the rapport between her and Anakin was a bit too forced. Seems like they should have been at odds through the whole movie. I don’t like their nicknames for each other. I don’t like how quickly Anakin accepted her. This might just be my bias, I don’t know. Heh.
I suppose I don’t mind her calling Artoo “Artooy.” She’s a kid, she’s allowed such silliness. But she shouldn’t call Anakin anything other than Master, dangit. Anyway, I do generally like teenage characters, so it seems like I should like her more than I do. Maybe I wanted her to be whinier? The know-it-all-ness is okay, if she were a normal teenager, but it seems to me that a Jedi youngling would have been taught about being humble early on, no?
The little Huttlet was SO ADORABLE. I was expecting a bratty little kid but Rotta was just a baby! Soooo cute! I wonder what happens to him… funny how we never see him all grown up in the OT. Hehe.
And Jabba’s uncle (Zero? Ziro?) was a riot! I’d like to see more of him. More of Coruscant in general.
Obi-Wan’s tea party was cute. He’s so gay :) I had already heard about his “my darling” to Ventress… that felt a little odd to me, though. I can’t picture Ewan saying it. I liked him chasing after Anakin “cleaning up Anakin’s messes” – that seemed reasonably in character to me.
And Padmé… dang, they really slutted up her outfit! I’m pretty sure Natalie Portman’s ass didn’t look like that in the white suit. LOL But I like that she and Threepio were involved in the plot.
I liked seeing more of the clones’ personalities showing through. And the droids had some funny moments. Funny in a stupid-funny sort of way… but they made me snort!
The music was cool. More modern. I love the classic stuff too, of course, but it’s nice to hear a refreshing new take on it.
And the battle scenes made me long to play Battlefront (like this droideka icon does!).
I didn’t like that Anakin faced Dooku. NO NO NO NO he’s not supposed to see him in between AotC and RotS! That takes away from the “my powers have doubled since we last met” a bit. I suppose it could still be true, but Anakin’s already a knight here, it doesn’t make as much sense.
I didn’t like Ahsoka’s “this is where the fun begins” line either. So now in RotS we’re supposed to think Anakin says it because his padawan did? Eww.
I think I’ve complained about more things than I praised…but I did enjoy it, really! The TV series should be fun to watch. I’d like to see them develop the minor characters a bit more.
I hear that people who didn’t like it are saying “At least it’s better than the holiday special” – can you believe I still haven’t seen that? Jeeeeez I must not be a true fan!
And now I must get back to work and save the internet-y funtimes for later!

Date: 2008-08-20 09:05 am (UTC)What bothers me is Ahsoka outfit - it looks a bit too...( i hate to use the word)immodest for a Jedi Padawan. I mean Jedis are basically Space Monks & i don't think I've ever seen a novice wear so little clothes.
Also i know that boob tubes don't stay in place like that! They are a pain, always falling down & risking exposure & I've got A cups! If it wasn't a cartoon her top would of fallen down half way through a lightsabre duel.

I wouldn't mind seeing what happens if Anakin goes dark on her, for a scene or two. Don't get me wrong, I like seeing them concentrate on Anakin as something other than a revenge-crazed maniac. But a little fear between them might be a good thing...
It would force to reevaluate what she's doing there and whether she really wants to do this.

And I think they did a great job with her. I only wish there was more Padme.
Oh, and Ziro totally sounded like a girl

Date: 2008-08-23 03:44 am (UTC)Yes, me, too. I'm interested in the series and the way the whole first season will go, as the trend is to have a whopper cliffhanger bringing up the major story arc. I enjoyed the movie and your review also. It WAS odd that Anakin and Dooku met and even fought, and then poor old Dooku had to walk all the way back to ... never mind. It was a fun movie, and those drums in the beginning, wow!

Star Wars meets Bratz
Date: 2008-08-29 12:13 pm (UTC)ABSOLUTELY LOATHING AHSOKA.
the fights were cool, the ships were cool, the hutt baby was cute and the plot very interesting, the music was great, the animation was beautiful, it was really neat.
but EVERY second of Ahsucka, which is almost every second of the movie was like having your fingernails ripped off. she was revolting. hundreds of times worse than Jar Jar. the sassy banter made me want to kill the world. it made no sense. why would yoda give him a padawan he didnt want in the middle of important battles when there were only him and Obi to basically fix everything. why. why was she saying she was too young? anakin was like 8 and they said he was too old.. who was she raised and trained by, yoda? where would she learn to be outright rude and speak like that? how the HELL could she force push a huge stone piece like that? even anakin cant move anything that large maybe not even obiwan at that point? why is she so good when she hasnt even been a padawan but a day? she was horrible. she had no jedi-ness to her at all. she displayed every negative emotion you can and killed that one unarmed droid just out of spite. the relationship between her and Anakin was ridiculous, forced, fake and nonsensical. the guy is about to turn into Darth Vader and suddenly he's like the worlds most patient babysitter.
i was certain she was going to get hacked in half at the end, to explain why she wasnt ever mentioned in the movies and just maybe have anyone of it make sense and tie in to what would later happen to Anakin, no. i dont know why they would do this (A)U nonsense bullshit episode that was more like a Disney movie than SW. that packaged 'be a spunky little c-nt' that they teach little girls makes me want to die.
and of course Obiwan was pretty much a complete dick the entire time as he is prone to be. so no redemption for me. yes i noticed the 12 shots of Padme's giant ass (and her nose was wrong, ha), the best part about the movie was that Ahsucka being so horrid made me have a new appreciation for Padme. Anakin was so OOC. the only second he seemed like himself to me was the second he and Padme saw each other which was heartbreaking. hey Padme, love of my life! wish i were with you in a normal version of SW universe instead of forced into this eyerolling snarky quip drivel with this monstrosity!! and the fight with Dooku was idiotic. and Zero the mardi gras hutt will probably give me nightmares forever.
and i sersly wanted my money back because THERE WAS NO GENERAL GRIEVOUS.
Re: Star Wars meets Bratz
Date: 2008-08-29 01:07 pm (UTC)The age thing bothers me more than anything, even her rude talk-back-iness! (kids today! er... long long ago!) Way to go against established canon, yo.
Grievous will be in the TV series! Tune in this fall! ;) And that's why Ahsoka hasn't died yet too. We get to see more of her in the TV show. Joy!
At least the fic I've read with her in it so far is good - it's not pairing her and Anakin (*shudder*) and she's more likable there than she was in the movie.
I liked Ziro! Hee.

Date: 2008-09-02 02:06 pm (UTC)It was entertaining, but it didn't feel like it was star wars, it felt like a kids cartoon.
I didn't like Zero (however you spell it), the baby hutt was too cutesy, as was ahsoka. And she was a brat too - very unbecoming of a Jedi.
I thought Obi Wan was very well done, as were his parts in the story, and whilst Anakin's character was the good Jedi, I didn't feel there was any of the underlying darkness that his character has in the films.
I didn't mind Anakin fighting Dooku, it's not documented how many times they battled, and it showed that Anakin had learnt from their last encounter, but was still no match for Dooku.
Amidala wasn't in it enough to make her role worthwhile, same as C-3PO, they seemed to just be added in because they're meant to be.
Similar to you, I seem to have more complaints than praise, and similarly I did enjoy it!

I think I'm going to do what
