Hand update

Sorry for the spam today! But I finally got a little bit more news on my hand.

The worker's comp lady has not been very friendly. When I first called, she sounded like she really didn't want to deal with me because the claim is so old. She was like "What have you been doing since 1995?" Gee, lady, I've been sitting around thinking up ways to scam you out of money! Yup! I leave messages for her every few days asking for updates, and she never calls me back.

BUT the girl from my new doctor's office is now working with a nurse from that company who is prompt and easy to work with and the ball is rolling! They're going to bring my case before the Physician's board to "determine if surgery is medically necessary." I thought, oh great, the board probably meets once a month or something... but nope, she said she'd call me with an answer on Wednesday! Two days from now! *crosses fingers*

I don't know how they can say it's not necessary. I do office work, and I can't use that finger. Can't type with it. Sure, I can gimp along like I have been these past 3 months, but... what about when the next tendon ruptures? Even if they say no, I'm going to have the surgery anyway. I'm too young to not be able to use it (says the doc). And the plate will cause problems for me in the future if I don't get that removed -- might as well do that while he's in there, you know? I wish the board could talk to my doctor in person, because he was VERY passionate that this should be covered by worker's comp, old claim or no. And why would HE care who pays for it, right? I was going to do it before the worker's comp issue ever came up.

A coworker said that if they say no, I should fight it. I just really don't want this hanging over my head forever. If I have to get a lawyer and stuff... it might cost me more than just paying for the damn surgery myself, you know? (if I lost in the end, that is) *sigh*

Feeling antsy about this.

Thanks, hun! Yeah... you know, I've been assuming that my health insurance would cover it if worker's comp doesn't. But maybe I should be worried about that too -- I REALLY can't afford to pay for it TOTALLY on my own. Urgh!

Arg, the whole purpose of these people seems to be to prevent people from getting compensated, rather than to ensure that the injured get the money they need.

I understand the hesitation, as I'm SURE people have scammed them before. And that's another reason I'm not so sure I would want to fight it... yes, it WAS covered by worker's comp originally, but I wasn't actually WORKING at the time, I was just on the property! It apparently makes no difference (we didn't lie about that on the report) but *I* feel a bit guilty.

Yeah, I know what you mean about that. I'd probably feel guilty too, if I weren't actually working at the time, but if you're legally entitled then you're legally entitled.

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping... I don't know how much they'd poke into the original report at all, which was a bit vague.

Heh, even if you don't finish, I might break my "read only" vow just to review. I still want to keep up with my f-list, but I know I'll be online a lot less and typing will be very slow and annoying with one hand, so I'll just LURK. And BE CREEPY like our favorite politician!

Hopefully, if there has been a report at least submitted by your new dr's office, that will detail why he feels this needs to be done, and why it's related to the original injury.

You'll know on Wednesday at least. Until then, all you can do is sit on your hands and wait! LOL

Thanks! ♥ I know, I would have thought something like this would have come up for them before. There's a reason they stopped using the dorsal plates -- they cause problems later! But even the doctor said it was unusual that it took this long for me to have real issues with it (aside from occasional soreness/fatigue in that hand).

I don't know anything about the cost of surgery but I think I can safely assume it's not going to be cheap. :(

Yeah, definitely not cheap! And then there's all the physical therapy sessions after O_O It won't be so bad if my insurance through my employer will cover most of it, and I just pay a deductible + whatever percent they don't cover.

But I shouldn't have to! It's not like I went out and got injured again -- it's definitely related to the prior injury "at work", it should be covered through Worker's Compensation. Oy.

And I will ask about the doc talking to them if they say no, but I think it's just one of those things that's not practical? I dunno. Not sure what good it would do anyway.

dont you have regular insurance, why do you have to do this with workers comp?
i had to a go to a free doc today, took 4 hours and i went out crying.. now im' going to watch a movie.. hope they give u $!

And actually, I have no news yet. ARGH. I had no pockets today so I carried my cell phone around in my boobs whenever I left my office, cuz that's the number the girl's been calling (I guess it's easier than trying to remember if I'm at work or home). We're not supposed to use cell phones at work but if we're on break it's okay if we go outside. AND TO NO AVAIL. :| I called and left a message at 3:30ish... I'm hoping no news is good news here, and she didn't call back because she hasn't heard, which means maybe they didn't just go UM NO right off the bat, right? Right!
