I've finally done it -- I've made an appointment to get the 2 male sorta-my-cats fixed. Whether they will cooperate by showing up at the appropriate time remains to be seen. I really, really don't want to do this. I feel queasy thinking about it. Betraying my cats by dragging them to the torture chamber is one thing, but betraying strays who trust me... ugh. I'm sure I'll feel good about it once it's over... even if they run away and I never see them again :(

And now I don't know what to call them. They're beyond sorta-my-cat status but not quite MY cat status because they still go outside, and I don't believe in letting kitties roam outside! (I just feed the ones who do)

I don't think I've mentioned it here yet but there's now a female sorta-my-cat as well. I'm not convinced she doesn't belong to someone even though she's in or around my house pretty much all the time because she doesn't act like a stray at all. Haven't seen her go into heat, either. Maybe she's fixed?

...Again with the redefining of what "your cat" status is. Thank heavens the government doesn't follow your lead or we would have people on the streets who are "sorta criminals".

I'm sorry, Nam, but I have to be true to myself! It doesn't matter that 4 people so far have told me "they're SO your cats."

You're going to keep changing your definition of "your cats" regardless of logical reasoning and proof?

...Shouldn't you be working too?

Date: 2009-10-14 03:05 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lumy12.livejournal.com
...yes?

I don't want to have 6 cats, that's crazy!

I am working. I'm sure work would understand that while I'm laptopless at home, I have to get online here.

Why aren't you off drilling boring math terms into younglings' minds?

...Oppose to the normal crazy that you are?

Sure you are.

Its called "giving a test". Its this concept where teachers assess how much information the student retains by giving a formal evaluation through a series of questions.

I keep tellin you that if you NAME the cats they are yours. You even said so yourself in an LJ post from Dec. 16,2007 (http://lumy12.livejournal.com/176136.html)!!!!

You didn't even hesitate a bit before you named the new white kitty Casey!!!!

You have SIX CATS, get used to the idea.

Didn't we already do this the last six times we tried to get a formal definition of "her cats"?

But Shnookums, I already explained to you that I clarified in a later post that they're not mine unless I pay for their medical care! So... now I'm changing my mind about that too!

And it's CASSIE -- short for Casper the Friendly Ghost :)

EXACTLY!!! When my sister suddenly found herself feeding two "stray" cats she knew she'd been adopted! In fact, when one needed medical attention, she called a vet and started to make the appointment by saying, "Hello, my name is Donna and I've recently been adopted by a cat. I need to make an appointment for him." When the receptionist asked what the cat's name was my sister replied, "Huh...Kitty?"

Receptionist thought that was hilarious. By the time the cat showed up for his appointment, only a day or two later, he'd been renamed Ninja. Now, my sister knows that she belongs to the cat and Wendy should just accept the fact that these other three cats believe she belongs to them too!

It's very responsible of you to get them fixed if they're running around, especially if you don't even think they're yours. Shame more people don't take that sort of trouble.

but not quite MY cat status because they still go outside, and I don't believe in letting kitties roam outside
So if you locked the door and didn't let them out again, they'd be your cats? Doesn't sound too hard to arrange. :P

Well, thank you! How nice of someone to tell me it's such a good thing to do when they're not even my cats -- my thoughts exactly!

Oh they would drive me insane with their whining to go out. Though maybe not so much after they're fixed, that makes kitties want to roam less... but still, I already have 3 cats, that's enough!

I think it's really good that you're taking them to be fixed, especially since they're indoor/outdoor cats. Neutered cats are so much less likely to wander off and get hurt, and they're calmer, less likely to fight...you're doing them a world of good, whether they're officially your cats or not. ♥

And yeah, it sucks to have to upset them by taking them in, but they'll get over it. :) Give 'em some canned food or another treat when they get home, and I'm sure they'll forgive you!

I looooove that icon :)

Thanks, fellow crazy cat lady! (okay so you're more of a 'professional' one ;)

I'll try to pamper them if they let me. Keeping the Ani-cat away from them if they DO seem agreeable to staying inside is another matter. If they're groggy maybe they won't mind hanging out in a closed bathroom...

They will be inside all night, either here or at the vet's. I spoke to them about that -- was hoping maybe if I brought them in real early they could just do them in the afternoon and that few hours of no-food-ness would be okay, but they said nope! Definitely nothing after midnight! So. If the little turkeys show up in time, I'll be selfish and bring them down to the vet the night before. If they don't show up in time for that but they show up later, I'll keep them in here and possibly not sleep all night if they're wailing to go out because there's no accessible food in here >.> The only one that likes being in here all night is Cassie and I ain't taking her, she probably belongs to someone and females are reeeeally expensive!

If they want to be in here, I don't kick them out. Maybe they'll hang out more often when it gets colder? But right now they want to be outside most of the time. Can't blame them!

Anakin tried to run outside tonight and I sort of slammed the door on him, trapping him in the doorway there, and dragged him back in. Mommy's mean!

So you're keeping Tica and her beau separated? How Romeo & Juliet of you!!!

It's funny but I don't have nearly as much issue with taking MY cats to the vet. Even for icky anesthesia-requiring things. But strays... it's like I'm ruining what little faith in humanity they have or something :(
