CYOA Page 48
Sep. 14th, 2013 07:30 pmYou can't just sit around waiting; Joel wouldn't just ditch you out here with no explanation, so something must have happened. Fear has begun to gnaw at your stomach. It's different from the kind you feel in a fight... or is it the same, just minus the adrenaline? It's cold and scary and kind of hard to ignore, but ignore it you must. You pull out a pencil and a sheet of notebook paper from your backpack (yes, you are just that prepared for situations such as this) and scrawl hastily:
"Joel,
Gone to look for you. Fire if you're reading this and I'll come back.
Love,
Ellie"
You have no trouble finding a rock to use as a paper weight, but you want to make sure he actually finds it, so you need a more visible marker. You don't want to leave anything too valuable behind... you settle on leaving the other T-shirt you brought on the trip. You still have your hoodie, and you don't really need to wear two shirts in the same week; you've gone much longer than that in the past with just one. Especially since you have to wear the long sleeves underneath!
You decide you need to search on horseback. Joel can't have gone too far away, but you'll cover more ground more quickly on horseback than on foot, obviously. What about his horse? You consider leaving her behind, in case he returns, but you don't want to leave her unattended, and your note does tell Joel to fire... what if he can't, for some reason? Well, you'll just have to check back every so often, then. Even if he can't fire and decides to go looking for you (or he fires and decides to go looking! You imagine it would be hard for him to just sit there doing nothing), Joel wouldn't leave this general area. ...so, now you have to add a P.S. to your note.
P.S. I brought Summer with me.
But... brought where? Where do you start?
If you look for tracks you can follow, turn to page 92.
If you follow your gut, turn to page 94.
